The Gibson 2016 Les Paul Fort Knox Limited Run Guitar with Bullion Gold finish looks every bit as lavish as its name suggests. Every appointment and the tiniest of details have been treated to sumptuous gold finish - even the fingerboard is gold on richlite -, creating one of the most luxurious Les Pauls we're ever likely to see. As if that wasn't enough, Gibson has limited the amount of available models to a mere 150 - so you'll need to act quickly to avoid disappointment!
Classic Les Paul body
As you'd probably expect, the body is crafted using mahogany to give this beauty a robust and enduring mid to low-end energy. Paired with a crisp maple top, the tone has a balanced high-end character that rounds out the tonal picture sweetly. As previously stated, the body is finished in a heavenly Bullion Gold paintjob, which is protected with smooth hi-gloss 90 sheen lacquer to preserve it and keep it in pristine condition for as long as possible. To complement the richness of the finish, Gibson employed custom 7-ply antiqued white binding around the top, with 3-ply antiqued white binding along the back.
Neck and Fingerboard
Fitted to the body is a single-piece mahogany neck, which is fixed using a classic mortis and tenon joint for substantial strength, and is reinforced with Titebond adhesive. The neck is shaped to a 1950s' profile for a reassuring feel in the hand. Married to the neck is a smooth composite of gold on richlite, which is home to 22-frets that are adorned with mother of pearl block inlays to guide your way in style.
At the top of the neck you'll find the headstock, which is set to Gibson's customary angle of 17-degrees to improve string tension across each string. The fingerboard is shaped to a 12-inch radius, favoured by Gibson thanks to its gloriously accommodating response with regard to smooth string bends, and flowing movement across the strings. To match the elegant aesthetic of the body, antiqued-cream binding traces along the edge of the fingerboard, and around the headstock.
Fitted to the headstock are gold Grover Keystone locking tuning machines with 18:01 tuning ratio, which uphold tuning integrity with absolute precision throughout each and every performance. The Tektoid nut works closely with the tuning machines to guarantee uniform string tension. The body is home to the gold tune-o-matic bridge is paired with a gold Bigsby tailpiece, offering exceptional vibrato control, whilst laying the foundation for a seamless connection between the strings and body to optimise intonation and sustain.
'59 Tribute Pickups
A gold-finished Les Paul deserves to have the ability to produce tones that evoke the legendary model's "Golden Era", which is why Gibson has fitted the Fort Knox model with gold-plated '59 Tribute pickups. The creamy, warmth produced by this pairing will have you and your audience begging for more. Control comes in the form of independent volume and tone controls, with gold speed knobs applied for precise control over each pickup.
To preserve your new pride and joy at home or on the move, Gibson has included a brown hardshell case, with removable gold-plated and black 5-ply pickguards to choose between. Each model is supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity,
