The ES-349 has long been a favourite because of its mix of hollow body warmth and complexity and solid body bite and sustain. However, for many players this model was often deemed to be a little cumbersome, but not anymore. This new model finally offers a more manageable semi-hollow body thanks to being scaled down like its close counterpart, the ES-339, blended with some features of the ES-345.
The Gibson ES-349 Electric Guitar is constructed from a 3-ply maple / poplar / maple body but with compact dimensions that make it more appealing to players of solid body guitars. This body has then been finished with a smooth Hi Gloss lacquer providing an elegant and sharp Sixties Cherry finish accompanied by 3-ply body binding, just like the ES-345.
Joined to the body of the Gibson ES-349 Electric Guitar is a highly playable neck made from a single piece of quarter-sawn mahogany and carved to the traditional "C" profile for real comfort and grip, further improved by the rolled fingerboard edges. The neck has been topped with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard and leads to the 17-degree back-angled headstock, which has been equipped with a set of Kluson double ring tuners with tulip buttons. Further enhancing tuning accuracy is a bone nut sat by the headstock, while the historic truss rod provides a much better adjustability thanks to its Teflon coating and larger components.
At the other end of the Gibson ES-349’s neck is the classic pairing of a Tune-o-matic bridge and lightweight stopbar tailpiece, firmly anchoring the guitar with optimal resonance and sustain.
The Gibson ES-349 Electric Guitar has been loaded up with two legendary pickups, in the form of the MHS Humbucker pickups; ready to supply heralded “PAF”-style tone, while Gibson’s Tone Circuit maintains highs as you roll down the volume.
The gold-plated pickups have mismatched, scatter-wound coils but maintain the vintage-style windings for a PAF-tone and shimmering highs. The rhythm pickup is powered by an Alnico III pickup while an Alnico II pickup fuels the lead pickup.
The ES-349 Electric Guitar is a classic in its own right and rightly so. Gibson also supply a hard shell tan case and Certificate of Authenticity, so you know it has been brought to you by one of the best guitar manufacturers in the world.
