The Gibson J-45 12-Fret Edition Electro Acoustic Guitar in Sunset Burst combines the classic look and finish of the J-45, with a classic 12-fret neck-to-body joint. Originally the standard with regard to guitar design, the 12-fret joint was gradually replaced by the 14-fret joint in the 1930s, taking its cue from mandolin and banjo designs. However, the 12-fret design boasts some excellent characteristics, which has gone some way towards influencing its resurgence amongst modern players.
Solid J-45 body
Since its introduction, the J-45 has been adopted by many guitarists who demand consistency of tone, and comfortable playability. The back and sides are built using mahogany, which establishes a warm mid to low-end timbre. Paired with this is a crispy grade AA Sitka spruce radiused top, which is reinforced using scalloped bracing to improve projection and resonance whilst prevent unwanted buckling or warping.
The 12-fret design means that the neck to body joint meets at the 12th fret, which in turn moves the bridge position further down the lower bout of the guitar. This changes the way in which the soundboard moves as the bridge is placed in a more flexible brilliant, which produces greater power, warmth, and increases sustain measurably.
Single-piece mahogany neck
A single-piece mahogany neck has been fitted to the body, which is shaped to the slimtaper profile to improve playing comfort. Married to the neck is a beautiful single-piece rosewood fingerboard, which is home to 20 frets that are adorned with mother of pearl inlays to guide your way in style. The improved fingerboard feel makes it exceptionally comfortable to play, with softened edges to make executing transitions between frets as smooth as possible.
L.R. Baggs Element VTC Pickup System
Equipped with the award-winning L.R. Baggs Element VTC electronics' system, you can take to the stage in effortless style and plug directly into the amp or P.A. of your choosing, safe in the knowledge that the acoustic character of your guitar will be translated transparently.
The pre-attached Element pickup, and all-discrete endpin preamp are controlled using the soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls. The built-in low frequency crossover prevents any unwanted low-end grunt from over-powering your signal, and allows the natural timbre of the J-45 to sing with the utmost clarity.
Select Hardware Appointments
Fitted to the headstock you'll find the vintage nickel open back tuning machines, which uphold tuning integrity with absolute precision. The Tusq nut at the top of the neck works dutifully between the belly up traditional rosewood bridge with Tusq saddle, and tuning machines to guarantee stable tuning, intonation, and optimised sustain.
The body is fitted with a traditional tear drop pickguard to protect from unwanted pickscrapes and nicks during performances, whilst complementing the sunset burst finish perfectly. The Gibson J-45 12-Fret Edition Electro Acoustic Guitar in Sunset Burst is supplied with a Gibson hardshell case in black, as well as an owner's manual to guide you through the entire instrument so that you can maintain and treasure it forever.
