Gibson Les Paul Standard 2016 Traditional retains all that has made this model one of the most revered guitars in history and adds to it some exciting new twists sure to win hearts and minds. Once you play a Les Paul, you'll understand why so many players the world over love this model so much.
The Gibson Les Paul Standard 2016 brings you a new fingerboard radius that makes this model even more playable than ever. It’s also more versatile than ever with the inclusion of two seriously accurate PAF reproductions with extra switching options provided by coil taps.
The classic duo of a maple top and mahogany body are back with the arrival of the Gibson 2016 Les Paul Standard. The standard carved maple top on the opaque finishes and AAA-Premium figured carved maple top on the translucent/burst finishes offers up amazing clarity and sustain. The mahogany body sorts out the opposite end of the tonal range by giving you depth and richness. What’s more the body is now weight-relieved to reduce the weight of the instrument and supply even more resonance.
Supplied with the Gibson Les Paul Standard 2016 is a traditional cream pickguard, which you can mount should you wish to.
The neck of the Gibson Les Paul Standard 2016 is classic, solid quarter-sawn mahogany, glued in with a mortis and tenon joint, and the super fast profile is back in the form of the asymmetrical ‘60s SlimTaper. Topping this is a rosewood fingerboard with a difference.
The fingerboard of the Gibson Les Paul Standard 2016 features a compound radius that goes from a 10” nut measurement to 16” at the end. This change has made all the difference in playability and comfort. Finishing things off are acrylic trapezoid markers and a TonePros tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece.
The Gibson Les Paul Standard 2016 features a 17-degree back-angled headstock, which, along with the PLEK-cut Corian nut, aids sustain and resonance. The headstock itself features a mother-of-pearl headstock logo, gold “Les Paul Model” silkscreen and Grover Locking Kidney tuners.
This is where the Gibson Les Paul Standard 2016 really gets interesting compared with previous models. While this model features all the fat, rich, singing Les Paul Standard tone you could want, the BurstBucker Pro Rhythm and BurstBucker Pro Lead pickups are routed through push/pull switches on all four control knobs, which along with the three-way selector switch, offer enhanced versatility of tone.
Lifting either of the Gibson Les Paul Standard 2016’s volume controls will give you a fat, single coil sound, with improved balance. With one pickup selected you get low-noise operation, with both pickups selected you get excellent hum-cancellation.
Both in humbucking or single coil mode, when the pickups of the Gibson Les Paul Standard 2016 are both selected the neck tone control can be lifted to reverse the phase of the neck pickup, thus producing out-of-phase tones. When in single coil mode the phase switch allows you to choose which coil is on.
