The Gibson 1963 ES-335TD Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar in Historic Burst recreates the charm of tonal characters of the early '60s model beautifully. The cool vintage burst finish evokes classic vibes, whilst the playing feel and the expertly crafted Memphis Historic Spec (MHS) pickups come together to make this a truly wondrous instrument.
Classic ES-335 Body
The classic ES-335 semi-hollow body profile with slim taper cutaways is on offer to create one of the most iconic models ever seen. In order to ensure the substantial warmth of the ES-335 is produced without fail, the semi-hollow body has been crafted using a 3-ply maple/poplar/maple partnership, which resonates with absolute freedom to generate the most impressive timbre it possibly can. The resilient ES-335 feel is secured thanks to Franklin Titebond adhesive, and a peerless craftsmanship that only the team at Gibson Memphis can boast of having.
The Historic Burst model takes its visual cue from the early '60s model, recreating its opulent finish that is protected and preserved by smooth hi-gloss 90sheen lacquer that is completed in vintage original spec (V.O.S.).
Single-Piece Mahogany Neck
Married to the body via a classic mortise and tenon joint - with additional support from Franklin Titebond 50 adhesive - is a sublime single-piece mahogany neck that is shaped to the historic 1963 profile. Paired with the neck is a 22-fret dark rosewood fingerboard, which is adorned with period-correct celluloid block position inlays. Rolled neck binding rounds off the edges of each fret, guaranteeing smoother transitions along the fretboard, enriching the playing experience.
Sturdy and Responsive Hardware
The Gibson ES-335 just wouldn't be the same without the customary appointments that allow it to play as sublimely as it does. Little details make all the difference. Firstly, the headstock is set to the standard 17-degree angle that Gibson employ across several ranges of their models, which contributes to the guitar's exceptional sustain, tuning integrity and uniform string tension.
Secondly, set between the awesome Kluson double-ring tuning machines that feature a stamped steel body with plastic tulip buttons, are the mother-of-pearl Crown inlay and "Gibson" logo. The Kluson tuning machines boast a 15:1 gear ratio secures strings to uphold tuning integrity with absolute precision. Of course, we can't forget the V.O.S. vintage truss rod cover, shaped to the distinctively "Bell" design.
Fitted to the body is the resilient partnership of a No-Wire ABR V.O.S. nickel-plated, die-cast alloy bridge, and V.O.S. nickel-plated aluminium lightweight stop bar tailpiece. The bridge and tailpiece work together to secure strings and create a harmonious connection with the body, allowing the sustain and string resonance to ring out truly for as long as possible.
The team at Gibson Memphis has only gone to great lengths to recreate the revered tonal characteristics of Patent Applied For (PAF) pickups with their Memphis Historic Spec (MHS) pickups. The neck pickup is powered by an Alnico III magnet, offering a fat and chunky tonal output that is flooded with the warmth produced by the body. The bridge pickup is powered by an Alnico II magnet, offering a little sizzle that breaks up when given a push of overdrive. Enamel wiring is scatter wound to ensure each model develops its own unique character over time, ensuring that the more you play and push these beauties, the more you're making your ES-335 truly yours.
If you're looking for a model that captures the cool style of the early 1960s model, then the spoils can be yours with the Gibson 1963 ES-335TD Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar in Historic Burst. Each model comes with a Gibson Memphis period correct black and yellow hardshell case, and certificate of authenticity.
