The Gibson Memphis 2015 1959 Figured ES-175 Electric Guitar in Vintage Burst, resurrects the classic features of the seminal 1959 model. Introduced in 1949, the Gibson ES-175 combined the brilliant sonic character of an acoustic archtop with the ability to connect to a guitar amplifier, empowering gigging musicians who could play alongside drums and other big band instruments. Arguably, the 1959 model saw the ES-175 come into its own with an updated neck profile, and the addition of PAF humbucking pickups.
The 2015 ES-175's open chambered shape is crafted using 3-ply maple/poplar/maple for the top, back and sides. The tonewood is strong yet supple, and held together by Franklin Titebond 50 adhesive, which allows the wood to resonate freely. The hollowbody design generates a huge amount of energy and fantastic projection. Period-correct binding neatly ties the body together, complimenting the sumptuous vintage burst finish to proudly illustrate the Gibson Memphis team's rigid attention to detail.
The neck is crafted from a single-piece of solid mahogany, offering a firm and reassuring playing feel. Shaped to the historic soft "C" profile, the slender neck supports a fast playing style. Married to the neck is a luxurious rosewood fingerboard, adorned with characteristic aged celluloid split parallelogram position inlays, and hand-bound with tan binding to guarantee smooth transitions along the entire length of the 20-fret fingerboard.
The Gibson Memphis team have designed Memphis Historic Spec (MHS) humbuckers to match the smooth warmth of the PAFs and translate the sumptuous timbre of the guitar accurately. Scatter wound using enamel wire, and powered by an Alnico III magnet in the neck, and an Alnico II magnet in the bridge, these pickups produce breathy, airy tones that offer a little crispiness when given a push.
Each pickup is fitted with individual volume and tone controls, wired through original spec 550K CTS potentiometers with "Bumble Bee" capacitors for the smoothest attenuation. The three-way pickup selector allows you to select either pickup independently, or both pickups simultaneously.
The headstock proudly displays a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo and crown inlay. The task of upholding tuning integrity with style and precision falls upon the reliable shoulders of the vintage-style Kluson single ring tulip button tuners. The smooth response of the tuners makes it incredibly easy to adjust strings on the fly, but the 15:1 gear ratio guarantees absolute stability. The strings meet the body via the vintage original spec (V.O.S.)rosewood bridge with compensated top and rosewood base, and the V.O.S. nickel zig-zag tailpiece.
Gibson Memphis has included a unique tan and pink hardshell case for the 2015 ES-175, and each model comes with a certificate of authenticity. The Gibson Memphis 2015 1959 Figured ES-175 hollowbody electric guitar is a fitting tribute to the model that everyone from Jazz enthusiasts to rockers have coveted for decades.
