The Gibson Memphis 2015 1964 ES-345TDC figured vintage original spec electric guitar with Sixties Cherry finish, resurrects the sophisticated style and character of the original 1964 model, whilst delivering the fit, finish and build quality of a modern model. The team at Gibson Memphis has also included a "VariTone" switch, which expands upon the already versatile tonal palette. To play one of these beauties is like a dream, and it is easy to see which it was a favourite of such legendary guitarists such as: John McLaughlin, Jorma Kaukonen and Freddie King.
Vintage Original Spec 1964 ES-345
The Gibson Memphis 2015 1964 ES-345TDC is built to the original semi-hollowbody design, which features chambers alongside a lightweight centre-block. The timbre that is generated is rich in warmth and midrange character. The 2015 body is crafted using a 3-ply figured maple/poplar/maple, which is held together firmly by Franklin Titebond 50 adhesive, allowing the characteristically bright-sounding tonewood to resonate fully.
The body is finished in a gorgeous sixties cherry that matches that of the original '64 model, whilst the natural figured wood grain shines through. In order to preserve the finish for as long as possible, a protective layer of smooth hi gloss 90 sheen lacquer has been applied, finished to the vintage original spec. This helps prevent unwanted or premature damage affecting the stunning finish, allowing it to age gracefully.
Historic 1964 Rounded Neck Profile
The single-piece mahogany neck is fitted to the body using a mortise and tenon joint, which is reinforced using Franklin Titebond 50 adhesive for maximum stability. The neck is shaped to the original 1964 rounded "C" profile, providing a reassuringly solid feel in the hand. The double-cutaway body profile allows the entire neck to be accessed with ease.
Married to the neck is a sumptuous rosewood fingerboard that is adorned with aged-cellulose split parallelogram inlays. Running your hands along the exquisite playing surface is about as good as it gets, with 3-ply tan/black/tan binding along the fingerboard to ensure smooth transitions are made along its entire length.
Memphis Historic Spec Pickups
The Gibson Memphis 2015 1964 ES-345 is fitted with a pair of Memphis Heritage Spec (MHS) Alnico pickups - Alnico III in the neck and Alnico II in the bridge. The neck pickup produces customary hollowbody-style tones that are saturated with warmth. Whether you're a jazz player or a blues enthusiast, the neck pickup ensures that each and every note rings out with absolute clarity. The bridge pickup is offers a fat and thick tone that is densely packed with flavour. From chunky to raw, the bridge pickup is perfect for creating cruising rhythm and lead tones.
The Gibson Memphis team has included Black Beauty capacitors to guarantee total control at your fingertips, ensuring every little adjustment is as smooth as possible. Each pickup has an individual volume and tone control, whilst the 3-way pickup selector allows you to create your own tonal blend. Not only that, but a "VariTone" circuit gives you an even greater tonal palette to select from, offering a wide range of options via 6 notch filters.
Ensuring a seamless connection between the strings and the body are the no-wire ABR bridge and lightweight stopbar tailpiece, both are finished in vintage original spec gold. Maintaining tuning integrity with style and precision are the Kluson double ring tuners with tulip buttons. The smooth action of the tuners ensures easy adjustment, whilst their 15:1 gear ratio guarantees precise tuning stability at all times. Each model is shipped with a Gibson Memphis period-correct black and yellow hardshell case to protect your new pride and joy, as well as a certificate of authenticity.
