The Gibson SG Special '60s Tribute borrows most of its specifications from the original Gibson Les Paul/SG Special as it was first called. The iconic double cutaway, P-90 pickups and mahogany body are all pieces of rock history!
What do Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi, latin guitar legend Carlos Santana, and The Who's Pete Townshend all have in common? That's right - they all played Gibson SG Special's with P-90s in the '60s!
The Gibson SG double cutaway has been associated with rock and heavy metal since it's inception in 1961. Since it was first designed (to replace the original Les Paul model) the Gibson SG has been a popular and very recorgnisable model. The Gibson SG Special '60s Tribute is designed for those who truly love or are inspired by classic rock and heavy metal, of which the SG Special was an integral part.
The Gibson P-90 pickups on the SG Special 60's Tribute use Alnico V magnets to create near-perfect reproductions of the original pickups used in the '60s. The raw vintage P-90 tone is supproted by a resonant solid mahogany, lightening fast, SlimTaper neck, attached to a solid mahogany body using one of the strongest glues available, Franklin Titebond 50 for a seriously reliable and solid build. Tuning stability is also enhanced by the Tune-o-matic bridge, stopbar tailpiece and vintage Kluson-style tuners.
