The long overdue Gibson John Hiatt J45 is now with us and like the man its real workhorse with the power to keep up with the vocals of the living legend.
As Hiatts favourite his signature model was always going to be a J45 but Gibson have given him free-reign to customise this classic with spec’s to fulfil his wants and needs, and they’ll be thankful they did. The Gibson John Hiatt J45 has retained its round-shouldered dreadnought shape but has been appointed with a solid sitka spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides. This is paired with a mahogany neck with a wider (1.725” at the nut) and deeper neck thanks to the modified V profile, topped by a rosewood fingerboard. All these tonewoods give you a sweet sound, whilst providing the projection you would expect of a singer-songwriters guitar.
While the specs may suggest something from Gibsons legendary back-catalogue the Gibson John Hiatt J45 has been constructed with the most advanced techniques, and equipment, at their disposal. Structually the guitar utilises scalloped X bracing to give it the strength it will need to survive performance and life on the road. The Fishman Ellipse Matrix Blend pickup has been put in place for its transparent and expressive sound whilst being discreetly mounted at the soundhole to give you access to condenser mic/pickup blend, phase and volume controls. Along with the bone nut and Tusq saddle, everything is in place for the Gibson John Hiatt J45 to offer up rich tone with or without an amp.
All the finishing touches that make the Gibson John Hiatt J45 so visually appealing have also been chosen by Hiatt to give a guitar that truly suits his style. The hand-sprayed nitrocellulose triple-burst finish is reminiscent of the red-yellow burst you would see of Gibson acoustics of the late ‘60s/early ‘70s and the teardrop firestripe pickguard is similar to tortoiseshell. You also have a double-ring rosette, mother-of-pearl inlays, vintage-style nickel tuners and a truss-rod cover engraved with Hiatts signature.
The Gibson John Hiatt J45 is super-rare with Gibson building just 100. Each comes with a Gibson hardcase with blue plush lining, owner’s manual and Gold Warranty.
