Mandolins

The mandolin has a very long history. Evolving from the lute family of stringed instruments in Italy in the seventeenth and eighteenth century.

Initially, the instrument was used in traditional folk music, and within string groups and orchestras, over time the mandolin has increased in popularity throughout the World. In the US, it has become a staple with bluegrass musicians and within country music. All manner of folk styles use mandolins, each with differing playing styles.

In contemporary music, the mandolin is a relatively common sight on a modern stage. Famously, both Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones are mandolin players, with several of Led Zeppelin songs featuring mandolin parts. At Dawsons, you’ll find a range of mandolins, from brands such as Fender, Epiphone, Stagg, Ashbury and Redwood.
