In terms of popularity electro acoustics don't come much bigger than the 500 Series. Having sold more than any other electro acoustic in the world Yamaha could have left this rock classic well alone. Instead they have tweaked it just a little by upgrading the pre amp to the improved System 65 and launched it as the Yamaha APX500II Electro Acoustic.

Known for it's aggressive stage-presence the Yamaha APX500II expresses a full tonal range through crisp mids, beautifully weighted highs and reserved lows. The resonance of the guitar's unique body shape is accentuated by the non-scalloped X-type bracing, giving the top real clarity.

The thin-line body featured in the APX line is designed for comfort, whilst the cutaway design gives access to the top-frets and the tonal range is picked up by the new System 65 preamp. The Yamaha APX500II is a time-tested, highly playable classic, relied on by many a performing guitarist.

Available in a variety of different finish options, you're sure to find a Yamaha APX500II to whet you're appetite.

I got this guitar for my 16th birthday recently, and I'm absolutely in love with it. As it's my first guitar, I can't really say I can compare it to much, but my mom has a Fender Sonoran (the red one) and my dad also has a guitar that I used to play a lot before I got mine (which I've named Lola Rae). This guitar is really thin, so if you're younger or smaller and struggle to reach over a normal or large guitar like I do, this may be better for you. The neck is slighter thinner than average, which is good for when you move your fingers around a lot. The action on it is great, and the strings aren't too far away from the fretboard. It doesn't hurt your fingers to play at all because the strings and fretboard mesh really well. As for features, it has a built in electrical tuner that really comes in handy when I want to tune and I don't have internet or a reliable instrument to go by. It also has the ability to plug into an amp, and it has a Lo/Mid/Hi control right on the guitar itself, as well as volume control. It's easy to tune, easy to play, and it sounds incredible. The CPX has slightly more resonance, but I haven't noticed anything about it. To me, it's perfect. If you're slightly smaller or struggle with a regular guitar, or if you want to play fast moving finger picking songs, or if you want a guitar that looks amazing and sounds amazing, too, this is the one for you. I think everybody should go get their own Lola Rae.
