Enhancements

This addition to the Korg family offers some great enhancements over its best-selling little brother. Such enhancements of the Korg Microkorg XL include RADIAS/R3 derived MMT Multi Modeling Technology, updated ROM including PCM data (to create vintage keyboards), a new design to give a vintage aesthetic, and improvements to the interface. The interface now includes two large sound selector controls, three smaller main parameter control knobs and a new keyboard that’s even more playable thanks to its being firmer and more responsive. On top of this the Korg Microkorg XL can also be battery powered so you can create music whenever inspiration strikes.

Korg's MMT Multi Modeling Technology

With the MMT engine onboard the Korg Microkorg XL Synthesizer/Vocoder you have a massive range of sounds at hand with the same high-fidelity synthesis that features on the Korg RADIAS. With two MMT oscillators your set for some amazing sounds. The Oscillator 1 gives you standard waveforms with seven types of oscillator algorithms. You also have cross-modulation, unison, and VPM (Variable Phase Modulation). Using oscillator 2 with the first oscillator you can add extra complexity and versatility to your sound.

Synthesis

The Korg Microkorg XL Vocoder and Synthesizer offers plenty of parameters to sculpt the sound you want with two multi-mode filters, a waveshaping circuit, and EG and LFO. Offing the patching ability of the Korg MS series is Virtual Patching, while the arpeggiator can run six types of patterns.

Vocoder

On top of all the synthesiser options of the Korg Microkorg XL, it also includes a high-quality vocoder, which coupled with a microphone allows you to add vocals to your performance with their own effects… vintage Sci-Fi robot anyone? On top of the sounds provided you can also shift the filter frequencies and adjust the level and pan of each of the sixteen bands. The Korg Microkorg XL comes supplied with a gooseneck mic, so you can use the vocoder straight from the box.

Sounds

The Korg Microkorg XL Synthesiser And Vocoder is armed with 128 professional sounds, which are easily accessed via two large dials and the synth’s category system. The first dial is used to select genre, while the second selects instrument category. Three performance editing knobs are available to fine-tune your sound and you can save your favourite parameters.

Dual Effect Engines

The Korg Microkorg XL Synthesiser/Vocoder offers up two master effect processors with 17 algorithms taken from the Kaoss series to give you the best effects around. On top of this you can sync delay effects to MIDI clock.

Natural Touch Mini Keyboard

With its Natural Touch Mini Keyboard the Korg Microkorg XL offers great playability and expressiveness. Playing chords is easy and the phrases can be played rapidly. With “waterfall” keys playing glissandos, smears and slides is also simple.

Downloadable Sound Editing Software

Acting as both a parameter editor and sound library you can download free software from Korg to extend the use of the Korg Microkorg XL. Just download the software to your computer, hook the synth up and away you go. Furthermore the download also includes additional programmes from the microKORG and MS2000/MS2000B, which are also free.
