A beatboxers best friend the Korg MicroSampler Sampling Keyboard packs multi-mode sampling, resampling, Pattern Sequencing and insane effects in a seriously compact, gig-friendly unit that will cater for all your loop and phrasing needs, be you beginner or seasoned pro.
Features
Recessed controls, bright LEDs and an informative display make the Korg MicroSampler easy to get to grips with straight out the box and makes handling complex musical phrases a breeze. Packed with features, you’ll never be short on inspiration with a 14-voice polyphony, reverse playback, and editing operations. A Time Stretch feature also allows you to change up the tempo without affecting pitch.
Sample rates are selectable to give you everything from high-quality 48 kHz to a vintage-sounding 6 kHz, and 24 kHz & 12 kHz if you want something in-between. A total of eight sample banks with 36 samples per bank, give you approximately 160 seconds of sampling each (at 48 kHz), and sixteen patterns of sequence data. You can also make things simple with Keyboard mode, which will take a sample and spread it chromatically over the keyboard.
Sampling
Although you may have an instrument that offers sampling, these are generally restrictive; the Korg MicroSampler Sampling Keyboard lets you sample in your way, with five sampling methods at your fingertips: Loop, One-Shot, Gate, Auto-Next, and Key Gate.
On top of these various methods the Korg MicroSampler also has a resampling function, which allows you to resample on the fly: capturing layered samples, with effects and played by the pattern sequencer, and saving them as new samples for instant recall, all mid-performance!
Sampling Sources
Not only is the Korg MicroSampler Keyboard portable in size and weight but you can truly start creating ANYWHERE inspiration strikes, with its capacity to be powered by a handful of AA batteries. It also comes supplied with a handy gooseneck microphone for instant sound capturing but you’re not even restricted to this, with line and mic inputs available for instrument, external audio (e.g. MP3 player) and mic sources. There is even a pair of caddies built into the Korg MicroSampler for your audio player/s to sit in.
If you don’t want to create your own samples or you’re looking for something in particular, you can also load up samples from sample libraries into the Korg MicroSampler’s free editor/librarian software. This is also the perfect way to back up all your samples and pattern sequence data to your computer, with just a USB cable. Importing and exporting of WAV/AIFF data on your computer is also supported.
At the time of writing Korg are even offering four Bonus Sample Packs free of charge, which you can get here:
Patterns
The Korg MicroSampler Sampling Keyboard’s pattern sequencer allows you overdub for a multi-layered performance and switch between patterns during playback. Storage of your patterns isn’t an issue either with each of the eight bank storing up to 16 patterns (16,000 notes per pattern, or a maximum 64,000 notes).
Kaoss Effects
Using the same effects engine as the Korg’s Kaoss Pad Series the Korg MicroSampler Sampler Keyboard offers 21 fantastic effects, which can be layered with resampling over to give you finite control over your sound. Though included, you’re not restricted to just delay and chorus as the effects selection includes a ring modulator, grain shifter, and a looper.
Natural Touch Micro Keyboard
The Natural Touch micro keyboard of the Korg MicroSampler offers great playability and expression as the proportion of the keys has been altered to make playing chords and rapid phrases easier, while their box-like shape make glides and smears smoother. What’s more, to ensure maximum visibility in dimly lit environments, the status of samples assigned to keys are indicated by LEDs (one per key).
