The Marshall 2525H Mini Silver Jubilee 20 Watt Guitar Amplifier Head delivers the classic tones introduced by the Silver Jubilee Series upon its release back in 1987. Originally released to celebrate 25 years of Marshall Amplification and 50 years of Jim Marshall being in the music industry, the Silver Jubilee has now become a much coveted model in its own right, thanks to its spectacular tonal delivery. The team at the Marshall factory in Bletchley, England have gone as far as to adhere to the preamp circuitry taken from their 2555X amp, which was released in 2015 and built using the original diagrams and verified against the original Silver Jubilee in Marshall's own museum. The 2525H is quite simply, the real deal.
Do not let the diminuitive dimensions of the 2525H Mini Silver Jubilee fool you, this little beauty packs one hell of a ferocious punch. Boasting a preamp valve complement that consists of a trio of ECC83, which are more than happy to rustle up some searing tonal energy. Then in the power amp stage, a pair of EL34 valves delivers a huge amount of projection. If you're wondering whether or a 20-watt output will be enough for a small to medium gig, the Mini Silver Jubilee is more than happy to step forward and alleviate any doubts you may have.
A fantastic feature that Marshall has included in the 2525H, lies in its independent 4/8/16 Ohm speaker outputs. For gigging musicians, or those who are turning up to practise spaces or studios they are unfamiliar with and using other people's gear, all bases are covered thanks to this very simple, but invaluable inclusion.
For when you'd rather do some playing at home - and don't fancy making enemies of your neighbours -, the output can be switched to a less anti-social 5-watt output. If its smooth tones at a level that is acceptable for practising along with your favourite songs too, and simply jamming with your other members on your band, then the low output control is heaven sent.
Front panel controls
Across the front panel you'll find the Presence, Bass, Middle, and Treble controls, which are followed by the Output Master and Lead Master level pots, and finally the Input Gain pot. Here you can shape and mould your tone to suit, taking it from sweet cleans to a blistering high gain.
The Input Gain pot is also pull switch that activates Rhythm Clip mode, which provides heavier, and far more driven tones. The Lead Channel is selected by using the push/pull function of the Output Master control - but can also be activated using the supplied footswitch.
Rear panel connectivity
Across the rear panel you'll find a range of connections that includes: independent speaker outputs; a frequency compensated line level output for sending a direct feed into slave amps or a mixing console; the footswitch connection; the FX Loop Send and Return jacks for connecting your external FX units.
Resilient Marshall build quality
As you'd expect from the team at Marshall, this amp head is built like a tank. The wooden enclosure is absolutely solid, so if you're looking for a reliable little workhorse to gig with then you're in luck. As the name would suggest, a Silver pattern adorns the outside of the cabinet rather than the usual black, complementing the aesthetic of the amp head perfectly. As ever, the instantly recognisable Marshall logo is proudly displayed across the front grille.
