The Marshall DSL5C 1 x 10" 5-watt combo electric guitar amplifier crams a mammoth amount of Marshall tone into an remarkably small unit. If you're looking for sweet tube tones in a home-friendly size then this amp is absolutely perfect. Not only that but it packs enough punch to easily carry you through small gigs too.
Classic, Marshall Build
The solid cabinet is constructed using MDF, giving it a supple yet supportive inner frame. As you'd expect, this is encased in rugged and resilient tolex, a mainstay of Marshall's recognisable and distinctive design for decades. Offsetting the black tolex is white binding around the front speaker grille. Each corner of the outer enclosure is protected by a corner brace, adding further support in case an accident should happen.
The valve compliment within the DSL5C includes three ECC83 tubes in the pre amp and one ECC99 tube in the power amp stage. This all-valve circuitry means that you have nothing but raw power to play with via the deftly laid out control knobs along the front panel.
Two channels are available: Classic Gain and Ultra Gain. If you're looking for traditional vintage tones then the Classic Gain channel is for you. When you want to take things up a notch or 5, then the Ultra Gain channel - which is based on the DSL100H's Ultra Gain channel - is just what you need. With both a pre amp gain control and master volume knob, you can really send the tubes into overdrive and wail to your heart's content.
At your fingertips lies a powerful three-band EQ, allowing you to sculpt and shape your tone as you please. The Toneshift button reconfigrues the tone network to add extra layers to the EQ's passive tone shaping. For example, if the toneshit button is accessed whilst the mid knob is rolled off, this results in a scooped-out mid sound, which is perfect for executing tight metal styles in the style of Metallica, etc. The Deep button adds a layer of resonance to your low end to create a fatter, juicier tone.
The FX Loop Send and Return allows you to connect you external FX units without affecting the pre amp settings.
Within the cab is a sweet-sounding Celestion Ten-30 speaker, which is responsible for delivering warm lows with a lively and responsive midrange, and exceptional articulation top-end. Clean tones are sublime, with spaciousness and depth that is surprising for such a small amp. But for when you want to take it to the limit, the speaker happily obliges with a gutsy response that ensures a creamy, full-bodied tone. Don’t be fooled by its diminutive size, the Marshall DSL5C can scream with the best of them, but thanks to Marshall's nifty high/low Power Shift, the output power is reduce from 5 watts to 1 watt, without compromising on tonal richness.
A solid top strap handle is fitted to make the cabinet incredibly easy to carry.
