Since the birth of the company in 1833, Martin have designed and developed a huge range of top quality guitars that incorporate a magnitude of knowledge and time-tested methods to build some of the finest string instruments we have come to know today. The DCPA4 Rosewood emerges out of the Performing Artist series of guitars, hence a fusion of exceptional tonewoods and materials are employed to generate a classic, acoustic timbre with plenty of tone and resonance.
CLASSIC DREADNOUGHT CUTAWAY BODY
The dreadnought guitar body profile is instantly recognisable to any guitarist, and it first came about when it was established by Martin themselves during World War I. The DCPA4 is shaped to the quintessential dreadnought profile with a single cutaway in the body for an incredibly comfortable playing feel. The dreadnought guitar shape enables it to produce a powerful sound that covers the entire tonal spectrum with plenty of volume.
The Performing Artist DCPA4 has a solid sitka spruce top that resonates sublimely with the dreadnought body shape. Martin have developed various bracing patterns which affect the way the guitar sounds, and the DCPA4 is constructed using hybrid “X” scalloped bracing with A-frame technology. This pattern adds weight relief to the body of the guitar whilst also reinforcing the body top simultaneously.
Solid East Indian rosewood has been chosen to make up the back and sides of the DCPA4 due to its ability to produce a sizzling, sparkly acoustic timbre, but also its capacity to stand the test of time. The combination of East Indian rosewood and a solid sitka spruce top enables the DCPA4 to generate a consistently classic overall tone that fills the room.
PERFORMING ARTIST NECK
Fitted firmly to the body by a simple dovetail joint is a select hardwood neck with a Performing Artist profile. This means it has a much slimmer feel and a close action ideal for faster note progression and a generally comfortable playability. The Performing Artist neck profile can take hours of fast playing and is appealing to guitarists of any genre.
Married to the hardwood neck is a black richlite fingerboard with 20 frets, though 14 of the frets are open giving you that extra couple of frets to play with to hit those upper notes. This is further facilitated by the single cutaway in the body, so you can reach those higher frets with no problem. To conduct your way along the frets, the DCPA4 is decorated with White Corian dot position inlays.
FISHMAN F1 ANALOG ELECTRONICS
The DCPA4 sounds great when played unplugged, but the onboard Fishman F1 Analog preamp system makes the guitar instantly ready for the stage once it is plugged in. The F1 Analog features two simple controls, volume and tone, as well as a built-in tuner. The tuner is easy to read as it has a lit up display on the side of the guitar to indicate when your tuning is accurate, and this is also easy to do on a dark stage. The F1 battery can last for up to 185 hours of continuous use and it has a low battery LED indicator to show you when it’s time to recharge.
HARDWARE AND FINISH
Martin have fitted chrome enclosed tuning machines with large buttons to the headstock to uphold tuning integrity with precision. The Performing Artist belly bridge is constructed from black richlite and establishes a firm connection between the body and the strings making it incredibly durable so it can endure hours of play.
The DPCA4 has a slick finish thanks to the two ring rosette decorating the soundhole and the tortoise pickguard which also protects the soundboard from dirt and scratches.
The DCPA4 Rosewood Electro Acoustic Guitar has been constructed using high caliber materials using tried and tested methods that Martin have been using for years. As soon as you take this out of the box it’s ready to play, whether in the studio or on stage. Martin also supply a free guitar case so you can keep it in a brand new condition for years to come.
