Music Lessons at Dawsons

Welcome to the ALL NEW Dawsons Music Schools website.  Here you will find course information, lesson prices, information about our teachers and much more.  You will also find out how music qualifications can earn you UCAS points!!

With courses in 6 different instruments*, some taking students from age 4, there really is something for everyone.  We currently operate music schools in 6 of our 7 mainland UK branches.  Use the drop-down box below to select your nearest music school.

Most of our lessons are taught in groups and follow the Yamaha Music School courses or the John Harper Guitar course (written especially for Dawsons).  We do however offer some one-to-one lessons.

At Dawsons Music School we have more than 20 teachers teaching nearly 1000 students every week!!  Choose your nearest music school NOW to find details of how you can sign-up for your FREE TRIAL LESSON.

*Not all instruments taught in all music schools, see individual music school pages for more information.

FAQs

How often are the lessons?

Lessons are weekly and will be held at the same time every week.  Your teacher will advise of the times available at the end of your free trial lesson.

Am I too old to learn?

The truth is NOBODY is too old to learn.  All of our teachers teach adults – many of whom are retired people!!  The minimum age for our courses may range from 4 to 8 but there’s no maximum!!

Do the Dawsons Music School courses follow an accredited syllabus?

There are four nationally recognised music exam boards: ABRSM; Guildhall; LCMM and Trinity College. All exams taken by students at any of our music schools follow the syllabus of, or are accredited by, one of these boards. It has also recently become the case that from grade 6 and upwards the qualifications now hold UCAS points (for university entrance). For example, at grade 8 (practical) a result of distinction holds almost the same value as a C grade A’ level. See table below (taken from the information on the UCAS website):

Music Examinations Table
Points shown are for ABRSM, Guildhall, LCMM, Rockschool and Trinity Guildhall advanced level music examinations
D - Distinction | M - Merit | P - Pass
