RockschoolYamaha Music Schools have been active in the UK since 1976. Today they have a comprehensive range of courses covering a wide variety of musical disciplines. There are lessons to suit people of all age groups and any ability – from complete beginners to aspiring professionals. And, in keeping with the Yamaha tradition, we specialise in making learning fun.

Every course delivers around forty to forty-four, one-hour lessons a year which generally fit into the academic calendar of local schools, with holidays for Christmas, Easter and Summer. In our schools, lessons continue through school half-term breaks which is a benefit to all students [subject to teacher’s discretion]. There is no loss of momentum in the learning experience and, for those who go to school, Yamaha/Dawsons Music School is the perfect way to relieve half-term boredom.

Classes typically cater for 6-8 students. Group learning has proved to be fundamental to gaining a much broader range of musical skills that is possible through one-to-one tuition. In every lesson students get the opportunity to play together. Not only is this highly motivational, it is also crucial to developing the ability to listen and interact with the performance of other students. We carefully assess every potential student so they can join an appropriate group and our structured course material ensures steady progress.

You are guaranteed to get the very best musical education. All of our teachers are experienced musicians in their own right and they all undertake a rigorous training programme before entering the classroom. In addition to intensive initial training, they receive top up training at regular intervals to ensure up-to-date teaching practices are maintained.

Learning at our schools offers more than just fun. All our courses support music in the National Curriculum and many adhere to the requirements of the National Qualifications Framework. This means that success at graded music examinations can count as additional GCSE/Standard and AS/A-Level/Higher passes, and even count as equivalent UCAS points for entry into Universities.
