Get Addicted!
XLN Audio Addictive Drums is the Complete Drum Production Studio. And
by "complete", we do mean complete! It has everything you
need to make a professional drumtrack production. It's flexible, yet
very quick to learn and use.
Concept - Three Vital Parts
Addictive Drums is built on three major, and equally important, building
blocks...
- Drum Samples: The “raw” drum/cymbal sounds, recorded
with a multi-mic setup
- Production Tools: Mixing, insert effects, reverbs, the know-how
of a sound technician / producer
- Beats & Fills: The grooves, beats and fills of a good
drummer!
Addictive Drums offers all this, in ONE easy-to-use plugin, compatible
with all the major host software packages!
Kits & Pieces
Addictive Drums ships with 3 complete kits, and lots of extra drums
and cymbals. The samples include every nuance from the softest to the
hardest hits, many stroke variations (hi-hat has 12 variations, snare
has 6 for example) Alternating samples through-out bring unparalleled
realism.

setup, just as you would record a real drum kit.

Tune and tweak
Shaping the basic sound is easy within AD’s sampler section. Controls
for volume and pitch (with envelopes), levels (adjust balance of Close,
Overhead and Room levels of each Kitpiece), and filter (cut the low
end on hihats for example) means you can do anything from slight tweaking
to major reconstruction of the sound.

to understand”.

Beats
A vast library of midi files in different styles, all easily accessible
from within AD gives you the building blocks to create drum tracks quickly.
The built in browser lets you search by keyword (“Ride”, “Metal”),
or sort by Category, BPM, Time signature. Drag’n’drop files
the files you like to AD’s favourite list, or drag them right into
your host’s arrangement window!

The AD Midi Library
More than 3000 beats and fills in various styles such as Pop/Rock,
Metal, Funk, Jazz etc are included. There are basic Kick+Snare beats
with variations on each like “8th Hihat” “w Ghostnotes”
“4th Ride” etc. There are also “Songs” which contain
4 bar Verse/Bridge/Chorus/Middle8 variations. And lots more!
Let it all out – separate outputs
AD is a multi-out plugin, meaning that every channel in the AD mixer
can be routed to a separate output if you like.
Take the Bus!... One common ”trick” in drum mixing
is to create a submix of some kitpieces (kick+snare+hihat for example)
on a separate channel in the mixer. This submix is then often treated
to some heavy compression/slight distortion, and finally brought back
into the main mix at a lower level. This means you can get a quite thick
and crunchy sound (courtesy of the submix), while still maintaining
the dynamics and punch of the “main” mix. AD’s mixer
has a special Bus Channel that lets you do just this (and lots more).
Presets
With one click, you can load up a complete drum production! The settings
for the Kit, the Insert Effects and the two built in Reverbs are recalled
in a split second! Save your own presets, and organise them in folders
for quick access in any project. They appear automatically in the preset
menu!

Addictive Drums gives you over 100 presets in diverse production styles
such as:
- Acoustic Roomy: Nice natural "full" sound. Subtle
use of compression and eq makes this drum production sit very nicely
in music that has an acoustic sound.
- 70's Kit: A dry and crisp muffled kit giving you that instant
70's feel.
- Machine: Can real drums sound like an old-school drum machine!?
Apparently yes!
- Funky Pants: Plate reverb, lots of compression and a slight
touch of tape saturation add up to a sweet funk preset taking you
back to when papa had a brand new bag!
- Live on Stage: Big sound with punchy compression and 2 reverbs.
Can you hear the crowd roaring?
- 90s Rock: A very useful preset for that big fat rock-sound.
The compressors are set for lots of attack and sustain, and a slight
touch of Hall reverb to the snare give the drums a nice feeling of
space. Just add your favourite rock guitar solo on top!
So many production styles are covered that you are bound to find something
that works with your music production. Even if this is not the case
you can easily start out with a preset that is close to what you want,
and then tweak your way to a drum production that suits your music perfectly.
When you are done, just save the preset, and it will be there for you
to recall instantly in your other projects.
Cymbal chokin’
AD has an advanced system for creating realistic cymbal chokes. (When
the drummer grabs the cymbal and silences it).
You hit the cymbal on one key, and choke it with another. AD calculates
the volume on the cymbal at that particular time, and plays a choke
sample that fits perfectly. There are even different choke samples on
the ride cymbal, depending on if you hit the bell or the edge before
the choke! All choke samples are multilayered and have alternating samples
as well.
User Friendliness
Addictive Drums is very easy to learn and use, and it works for just
about anybody. The user interface is straight-forward and gives you
lots of flexibility. Just try the demo, and we are pretty sure you will
agree.
- Beginners: You do not have to know ANYTHING about drum track
production to get started with Addictive Drums. Just click on a production
preset, and start listening to and using the beats and fills included.
Very quickly you can build a drum track that sounds like it belongs
on a platinum-selling record!
- Producers with a mind of their own: If you are a tweaker,
and you know what you want, Addictive Drums has all the flexibility
you need. All settings can be tweaked and changed to perfection, and
Addictive Drums introduces some very neat features that haven't even
been seen or heard until now! (see the "Special Features"!)
