Earlier on this year Gibson launched their first limited edition Gibson Robot Guitar. It was based around a standard Les Paul shaped guitar however the robot guitar came with a full on-board computer that lets the robot guitar automatically keep itself in tune without having to use a standard guitar tuner.
This isn’t the first time that a self-tuning guitar has been available however most people agree that Gibson have implemented the mechanism to do this in the best way yet. Better still the Gibson Robot guitar actually keeps itself in tune automatically. To see the machine-heads moving by themselves is an amazing sight.
The first limited edition Gibson robot guitar was produced in very small numbers and sold out immediately. However since that time Gibson have started producing a small number of other guitars in different finishes including Metallic Red, Silverburst, Ebony, Wine Red, Manhattan Midnight, Fireburst and Desertburst. They’ve also produced some new body shapes including the iconic SG shape as well as the distinctive Explorer shape. The SG shapes is available in Silverburst, Ebony, Cherry and Natural Burst. The Gibson Robot Explorer is available in Red Metallic. Prices for the guitars range from £1199 for the SG shapes to £1499 for the Les Paul shape. Here some information for each of the models. The Gibson Robot Les Paul Studio LTD. guitar eliminates tuning problems for artists by automatically tuning to a standard A440 and allows players to access six commonly used altered tuning presets at the push of a button. The technology also makes string changes an automated breeze and allows the guitar to be intonated in seconds after string changes, truss rod adjustments or weather changes.
The system’s high technology components are extremely light and do not change the instrument in any way. The user interface of the Robot Guitar is the Master Control Knob, which has all operating and control functionality contained in 11 different positions. The Powerhead-Locking tuners, constructed with lightweight alloy housing, represent a revolution in guitar technology and are not any heavier than common tuning keys.
Each Powerhead has a motorized high-performance gearbox controlled by signals from the CPU.
