The Orange Acoustic Pre Stereo Valve Acoustic Preamp and Active DI is world first with regard to being the first stereo valve acoustic preamp/active DI. As we've come to expect from the team at Orange, they have spared nothing in building this flawless piece of kit. The richness timbre of your instrument is translated with unparalleled clarity to ensure your performance is given the exceptional service it deserves. Whether you're performing live on the stage or taking to the studio to lay down your next big hit, the valve design ensures that the sublime timbre of your acoustic is translated transparently, with the same warmth, natural compression and harmonic clarity afforded to electric guitarists and audio purists.
Twin Channel perfection
The Orange Acoustic Pre boasts a unique ECC83/12AX7 valve Channel (Channel A) that is perfect for either active or passive instruments. To capture the wide breadth and depth of the frequency range presented by acoustic instruments, the valve circuitry operates differently to ensure that the minutiae of nuances are faithfully retained. Tonal effects of the valve can be attenuated with the preamps 'Heat' control, which adjusts negative feedback applied to the valve. The result is that this effect can be used to adjust the voice of the Channel to match your playing style - flatpickers may want to ease off the heat to ensure a warmer attack, whilst fingerstyle players may increase it to ensure more presence and brilliance shines through.
The analogue solid state Channel (Channel B) offers something slightly different, with a gentler character but still an Output of enviable clarity. Channel B is equipped with Inputs for either an instrument or a microphone (with switchable 48V phantom power). As both Channels can be used independently or simultaneously, you have the option to either play directly through either or create a blend of both using the internal pickup of your electro acoustic guitar and a condenser microphone of your choice.
Total signal control
Channel A and Channel B are both equipped with a three-band EQ and semi-parametric mid control, which allows you to shape and sculpt your Output to suit your playing environment. There is also a selection of switches that allow feedback to be corrected should any stage-related problems rear their head, as well as phase-correction resulting from dual-source pickups. The tone sculpting controls on offer are specially voiced to respond to the timbre and breathiness of acoustic instruments, so you can rest assured that the acoustic response is upheld in all its glory. The onboard stereo reverb adds a touch of ambience that enables you to enrich your tone in flat-sounding performance environments.
The rear panel is home to a range of connectivity options, enabling independent effect loops and balanced DI Outputs for each Channel. Live applications make this a joy to use, whether you're performing at a small, medium or large venue. All you need to do is rock up with your guitar and the Orange Acoustic Pre, plug straight into the in-house PA, and you're good to go. There is also a footswitch input that allows the Mute function to be controlled using an optional latching footswitch.
Handmade in the UK, the Orange Acoustic Pre Stereo Valve Acoustic Preamp and Active DI has already been picked up and used in the touring rigs of none other than Stevie Wonder - for use with his Harpejji - and legendary fingerstyle jazz guitarist Martin Taylor MBE. I think we can all agree that they're knowledgeable gentlemen with discerning tastes when it comes to gear.
