The Pigtronix PXRSS Rototron Rotary Speaker Effect Guitar Effects Pedal brings the 'acoustic effect' of the legendary dual-rotor 122 and 147 Leslie speaker cabinets - made famous by artists including Peter Frampton and The Beatles - to life in compact pedal form. The sound of the Rotary speaker effect is unmistakable, and the original Leslie combined an amplifier and two-way speaker cabinet, which projected the signal whilst the loudspeakers rotated to create a shimmering quality. Thanks to Pigtronix, you can take that effect with you wherever you go.
The Rototron features all-analogue circuitry, which gives it a warm, sweetly smooth sound that works beautifully with your guitar's natural tone to give it vibrancy you've always dreamed of. The Rototron isn't just for guitars though, its line-level headroom and full stereo connectivity makes it ideal for keyboard players too, bringing the stunning Rotary Effect to the studio and/or stage.
The top of the pedal is home to four control knobs: Ramp, Slow, Fast, and Depth. The Ramp knob allows you to attenuate the time it takes for the effect to switch between the Slow and Fast settings - the speed of which are controlled using the Slow and Fast knobs. The Depth control sets the intensity of the rotary speaker effect from subtle to mind-blowing brilliance.
There are two footswitches: Engage and Slow/Fast. Engage turns the pedal on and off, whilst the Slow/Fast switch toggles between the slow and fast speeds that are set by the controls pots.
As noted above, the Rototron is equipped with stereo inputs (In 1 and In 2); In 1 can be used as a mono input for an instrument such as a guitar, and is also the left channel of the stereo set-up. Therefore, In 2 is the right channel of a stereo set-up. Outputs 1 and 2 can send your signal directly to an amplifier, mixing desk, or a DI input.
The Brake input allows you to connect a momentary or latching footswitch, which enables you to turn the brake function on and off. When it is in operation, the rotation of the effect slows down to a complete stop. Alternatively, when it is turned off, the rotation of the effect will speed back up again.
With regard to the Low Rotor Control input, a low impedance expression pedal can be connected for real-time control of the low rotor, without affecting the speed of the high rotor. The same applies to the High Rotor Control input. If you use the Pigtronix Dual Expression Pedal, you can control both rotors simultaneously - you can even use the Polarity reversal function of the Dual Expression to alter rotor speeds such as slowing one down as the other speeds up.
The team at Pigtronix have truly outdone themselves with the Rototron. Not only is it 100% analogue, but the level of control is matched with an incredible sonic output. The warmth and expressiveness that this pedal delivers will melt hearts. Once you start playing you’ll never want to stop, so grab one today and lose yourself in a dreamy soundscape of your own creation.
