The Rode NT4 X/Y Stereo Microphone uses dual matched ½" capsules with gold-sputtered diaphragms to create a perfect stereo image, perfect for accurate stereo micing applications (such as overhead drum micing). 90-degree stereo microphones solve problems with phase too, as they are exactly beside each other and, as a result, all sounds hit both microphones at the same time (this makes them a lot easier to mix).
The Rode NT4 is an alternative to matched pairs of NT5's or NT55's, the advantage of the NT4 is it negates the need to buy adaptors for pencil microphones and saves space compared to pencil microphones when used in a 90 degree X/Y position. One of the other advantages of the Rode NT4, like its brothers the NT3 and M3, can be run off a 9V battery or 48V with a battery indicator light so you never end up in a sticky situation with a dead battery on location. The best uses for the NT4 are as a overhead on drums and choirs, acoustic guitars, pianos and in the field connected to a DSLR with video capabilities or Video Camera. The NT4 comes in a moulded black plastic briefcase, windsock (great for field recording), Mic clip (for all mic stands), NT4-XLR to 2 XLR (one left one Right) and 2 NT4-XLR to 3.5mm stereo jack (for cameras and DSLR's).
Rode is an Australian microphone designer and manufacture who offer a 10 year warranty on all their mics, We think this just proves how well built the Rode Mics are although the NT4 capsules look rather fragile on the half moon body mouth, it really isn't. Thanks to Rode's cast metal construction.
