Samplers

The Sampler is a digital device, capable of recording and replaying audio on demand. The Sampler can be used to record any sound into it as a potential instrument. A hugely creative tool in music production, a sampler of some description is found in nearly every professional studio, due the huge flexibility they offer. At their most simple, a sampler will play back a recording at the touch of a button, or via a MIDI input.

Though more sophisticated devices may offer a full sequencer, meaning that you can put together a whole track with it, Samplers are hugely popular in the world of Electronica and Dance Music, with the iconic Akai MPC range becoming a staple for Hip Hop production.
