The RME Fireface UCX USB and Firewire Audio Interface is a compact powerhouse that is perfect for both in-studio and on-location recording environments. Carrying on the rich RME tradition of delivering incredibly powerful interfaces in portable form, the UCX packs some very useful recording tools up its sleeve. Combining the unique Hammerfall audio core with USB and Firewire support, high-quality mic preamps based on RME's high-end Micstasy and UFX, TotalMix FX - a powerful effects engine with the ability to run effects up to 192kHz, a refined monitoring controller, plus a wide range of integrated preventative safety measures to prevent any unwanted errors during the recording process.
RME has equipped the UCX with a total of 36 channels of audio - 18 inputs and 18 outputs, with up to 8 analogue and 10 digital channels to play with. The 8 analogue inputs are split across the chassis, with 4 balanced TRS jack on the rear, on the front are 2 XLR inputs with Mic/Line preamps, and 2 Hi-Z capable TRS Line/Instrument inputs. With regard to the 8 analogue outputs, there are 6 balanced TRS outputs on the rear, on the front is a TRS stereo phono output, as well as a high power headphone output, which operates perfectly with all headphones (including high impedance headphones). The pristine sound quality is preserved by the high-performance converter design, which guarantees an excellent signal to noise ratio and total harmonic distortion across a vast analogue level range. You can rest assured that your recordings will not be coloured or distortion, instead captured in all their glory.
Hammerfall-X-Core: USB and Firewire
RME developed their proprietary Hammerfall Audio Core to guarantee peerless performance across both USB and FireWire bus platforms. They are optimised for the highest performance across both Windows and Mac OS, with customised firmware for each operating system, upholding ultra-low latencies across multiple channels. The FireWire technology was completely redesigned for the UCX to ensure stability throughout the most demanding of recording applications.
The integrated TotalMix FX software provides a DSP-based mixer that offers fully independent routing and mixers of all inputs to all outputs. There are even up to 15 independent stereo submixes, a wide range of monitoring capabilities and wide-reaching routing flexibility. Across every channel there is a 3-band parametric EQ, as well as a selection of Dynamic controls including: adjustable Low Cut, Auto Level, Compressor, Expander, MS Processing, and phase reversal. Thanks to the two DSPs, the effects performance remains stable during the most demanding of recording sessions. However, to prevent unwanted overload, built-in automatic overload surveillance deactivates all effects that exceed the DSP’s performance.
Whether you’re an amateur or a professional, the RME Fireface UCX USB and Firewire Audio Interface is the perfect companion on any recording project, whether you're at home, in the studio, on the road, or at a concert.
