The RME Fireface UFX USB and Firewire Audio Interface is an all-purpose preamp, signal processor, monitor controller, and headphone amp that belongs to be the heart of every studio. With 60 channels of audio available (30 inputs/30 outputs) across both analogue and digital connections that encompass a wide range of protocols including: AES/EBU, ADAT, SPDIF, World Clock, MIDI, balanced TRS and XLR, every device in your studio is catered to. Direct USB recording is available, with the ability to directly record every input and output simultaneously to an external USB hard drive, independent from a connected Mac or PC.

RME Build Quality

RME has gained a reputation for producing exceptional studio gear at highly affordable prices, and the Fireface UFX carries on this proud tradition. As with all of their products, RME has crafted this beauty with the high-grade AD/DA converter chips - which operate up to 192kHz and reach 118 dBA dynamic range -, which means that the balanced TRS & XLR I/Os and both phones outputs deliver outstanding low noise and distortion values. Therefore, you can rest assured that your original source signal will be captured with the utmost fidelity.

Preamps and Stereo Converters

RME borrowed the core technology from their coveted Micstasy - a high-end preamp that is widely employed in professional recordings of classical concerts. The superb preamp design guarantees low distortion, peerless signal to noise ratio, and a linear frequency response - essential components in capturing crystal clear recordings. Whatever signal you're capturing, from low to high impedance sources, or dynamic, condenser and ribbon microphones, the impressive gain range allows you to cover all bases. The Fireface UFX boasts four preamps, which are backed up by eight AD converters, which means that every mic input is equipped with its very own stereo AD conversion - hence the peerless signal to ratio.

DURec - Direct USB Recording

As well as providing a high-end interface for recording to a Mac or PC, thanks to the Direct USB Recording facility, the Fireface UFX can easily be used as a stand-alone recorder - making it perfect for on-location recording at live concerts, band rehearsals, and jam sessions. Using the integrated display, and the included TotalMix FX software, the desired channels for recordings can be selected with ease. Audio sources can be captured both pre- and post- FX, with EQ, Dynamics and Echo/Reverb included, without latency affecting your recordings.

TotalMix FX

The integrated TotalMix FX software provides a DSP-based mixer that offers fully independent routing and mixers of all inputs to all outputs. There are even up to 15 independent stereo submixes, a wide range of monitoring capabilities and wide-reaching routing flexibility. Across every channel there is a 3-band parametric EQ, as well as a selection of Dynamic controls including: adjustable Low Cut, Auto Level, Compressor, Expander, MS Processing, and phase reversal. Thanks to the two DSPs, the effects performance remains stable during the most demanding of recording sessions. However, to prevent unwanted overload, built-in automatic overload surveillance deactivates all effects that exceed the DSP’s performance.

Whether you’re an amateur or a professional, the RME Fireface UFX USB and Firewire Audio Interface is equipped with everything you need to capture your recordings precisely, with minimum fuss, both in the studio and on-location.
