The flagship of the Cube-GX series, the Roland Cube-80GX brings together years of prominence of being the go-to amp for rugged construction and versatile sound. The amp now fully integrates Apple’s iOS devices, the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, via the new i-Cube Link interface, to allow you to utilise an ever-expanding library of apps into your playing, including Roland’s free to download app, Cube Jam.
Being the most powerful of the series, the Roland Cube80 GX Guitar Amplifier supplies 80-watts of power punching its way through a custom-designed 12-inch speaker, which, despite its compact design, is perfect for the stage and practice. Of course, being a Cube, it also offers a staggering selection of tonal options, with 11 amp types, three footswitchable independent channels (including the programmable Solo channel), and a selection of stompbox-type effects, 2 delays and 2 reverbs.
Multi-purpose Combo Amplifier
Despite being an absolute powerhouse, with its 80-watt power rating and 12” speaker, the Roland Cube80GX Guitar Amplifier still manages to retain the compact dimensions and rugged, reliable construction, which ensure its always gig-ready.
Whilst being an excellent giggers amp, the Roland Cube-80GX is adept in a number of situations. Its wide range of amp models and effects make it perfect for recording with, and the Line Out and Recording Out makes it easy to do just that, or to extend sound coverage for bigger venues. In addition, for silent practice, you can plug in a pair of headphones, which will mute the speaker, so you can enjoy your music without annoying the neighbours.
Three Independent Channels
The Roland Cube-80GX Guitar Amplifier is seriously versatile with three channels (JC Clean, Lead, Solo) arming you for any musical genre.
- JC Clean replicates the coveted sound of the JC-180, and gives you an independent volume control.
- Lead gives you ten tones to choose from: Acoustic Simulator, Black Panel, DLX Combo, Brit Combo, Tweed, Classic, Metal Stack, R-Fier, Extreme & Dyna Amp.
- Solo is fully programmable; letting you store custom amp, EQ and effects set-ups, to be instantly recalled when you need them.
Giving you the option of a seamless performance, the Roland Cube-80GX’s channels can be controlled with a footswitch, such as the Boss GA-FC Foot Controller (sold separately). With this plugged in you can remotely control channels and turn effects on and off, in addition you can also add an expression pedal or two for finite control of input and master volumes. For simple control, you can use a BOSS FS-5U or FS-6 to flick between channels.
Effects Section, EQ and Tuner
After dialling in your amp model of choice the Roland Cube-80GX Guitar Amplifier gives you a selection of five stompbox-type effects, two delays (including a Tap tempo button) and two reverb types to add to your sound. The options are:
- EFX: Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Tremolo, Heavy Octave
- Delay: Warm, Clear (and Tap tempo button)
- Reverb: Spring, Plate
Sculpting your tone further the Cube-80GX is outfitted with a 3-band EQ, Presence control, alongside a chromatic/manual tuner.
Built-In Interface for iOS Devices
With its new i-Cube Link interface, the Roland Cube-80GX Combo Amp allows you to utilise your iOS device’s music library and apps in your playing, via the included cable. Allowing for two-way communication between device and amp you can play your library of music through the amp’s speaker, whilst playing along with all the available tones and effects of the amp, and record your session straight on your device.
Even if you don’t have an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch the i-Cube Link interface can be used as a stereo input for your audio player, still allowing you to play along with your favourite tracks.
Roland Cube Jam
Roland have developed a free app, Roland Cube Jam, which allows you to make full use of the Roland Cube80GX’s i-Cube Link interface straight away. Excellent for any level of player, the app makes jamming, recording and learning easy. With the app installed and your device connected to the amp you can play commercial and minus-one tracks through the amp. The app also has a Centre Cancel function that allows you to remove solos, and you can alter the speed and pitch of audio playback, to practice at a slower speed, should you wish to. Once you’re happy, the app has a simple, one-touch recorder for you to capture your performance and save it to a useable 16-bit, 44.1 kHz WAV file.
