The latest instalment in the RP series the Roland RP301 Digital Piano has a few new features that are definitely worth standing up and taking notice of.
For the first time in an entry-level piano Roland has included its revolutionary SuperNATURAL sound. If you don’t know what that is, you should. Created by bringing together V-Piano and 88-key stereo multi-sampling technologies this sound engine gives you expressive, natural sound and true tone colouring that isn’t usually available in electric pianos at this price point.
Ivory Feel-G Keyboard
And they haven’t stopped there. In the Roland RP301 Digital Piano Roland have improved upon the feel of the piano by replacing the Progressive Hammer-Action keyboard with their Ivory Feel-G Keyboard. This enhancement gives a superior touch and sensitivity to the keyboard via the advanced sensor and escapement mechanism that responds like a grand piano.
Functions and Learning
The buttons on the front panel (just above the keys) that control operations are set up for ease of use and quickly become intuitive, even for beginners. This is wholly intentional as, being an entry-level instrument, the Roland RP301 Digital Piano really caters for the learner.
The piano has an onboard metronome to keep your timing. There are also 200 songs built-in to the Roland RP301 Digital Piano to help you practice and a recorder to allow you to listen back to your playing for an objective view on how you can improve. A great aid to learning is the keyboard-splitter function. This divides the keyboard into a left and right area, allowing the student to work on one area of the keyboard whilst the internal track looks after the other area. This allows the learner to really focus their learning to build confidence to take on the rest of the song.
For those who are acutely aware of their carbon footprint or just want to save money on their electricity bill the Roland RP301 Digital Piano comes with an ‘Auto Off’ feature. This will power the piano down after a certain time. The RP301 is already consumes very power, somehow managing to run on 12W during normal operation.
