The Roland TD-4KP V-Drums Portable Digital Drum Kit allows you to take V-Drums with you everywhere you go. It may seem like an unrealistic boast but this new kit from Roland has a surprisingly small footprint and features an innovative folding design, and is incredibly lightweight, which allows it to be carried single-handed. It’s perfect for taking to small venues and rehearsals or even just allowing you to finally have a drumkit that doesn’t take up much space in your bedroom or apartment, which can be packed away quickly when you need the extra room.
Though compact and easy to travel with, Roland hasn’t skimped on the quality of the kit itself. With the TD-4 sound module at the centre of the Roland TD-4KP, the kit can offer a fantastic range of sounds, which are editable, and an onboard Rhythm Coach that’s perfect for practice and warming up. The pads included are also of Roland’s usual high-quality; providing great feeling and superb playability, along with being quiet when struck.
The Roland TD 4KP Portable is centred on an integrated stand. Along with keeping the kit sturdy when you’re playing, the sound module and drum/cymbal pads attach to the stand, where they can be rotated and/or folded down quickly for instant drumming gratification or putting away at the end of a session.
The Roland TD4KP Portable Digital Drum Kit comes with all the pads you’ll need. Straight out the box the kit comes with: a kick pad, snare pad, three tom pads, a hi-hat pad, 10-inch crash cymbal, 10-inch ride cymbal pad and a FD-8 hi-hat controller pedal. With all the drum pads made of a cushioned rubber they offer great sensitivity, response and feel. Should you prefer the feel of a mesh head there is also the capacity to swap out the snare pad with Roland’s PDX-6 or PDX-8 V-Pads, which offer dual triggering to play rim shots and cross stick.
TD-4 Percussion Sound Module
The brain of the Roland TD-4KP Kit is the TD-4 sound module. Mounted at the centre of the kit, this easy-to-use sound module gives you all the necessary information to quickly customise the mass of expressive drum sounds on offer, to best fit your playing style. Sounds are further enhanced by the sound module’s ability to create expressive ambience effects.
The Roland TD-4KP Digital Drum Kit also features a built-in Coach function, that’s useful for warming up and practicing, with plenty of exercises to improve your playing, not matter what level you’re at. In addition to this the Roland TD-4KP also has a Quick Record/Quick Play function, which allows you to save your performance to the module, to review and improve upon.
Roland CB-TDP Carrying Case
The Roland CB-TDP Carrying Case has been specifically designed to keep the TD-4KP V-Drums protected whilst being transported. An integrated shoulder strap makes travelling with the kit easier, and being made of polyester the case it both lightweight and durable.
In addition to holding a Roland TD-4KP Kit the Roland CBTDP Carrying Case also has pockets for your essential accessories, such as stick and beaters, and detachable pouches for hi-hat and kick pedals.

- Customer Reviews
- Great for me
- Very fit for purpose
Drawbacks? Minor irritant that you can't do rim shots on the snare but there is a Roland add-on snare pad for £139 that allows this. Also would be nice if snare could be played with brushes, but I believe that's a general digital issue anyway, so no real complaints on that score.
