The Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special has the cool style and elegance of the coveted Fender Jaguar, but comes in a much more affordable package. Though it may make less of an impact on the pocket, Squier have made every effort to ensure that it still makes an impact where it counts.
Cool Jaguar Style
The Vintage Modified Series delivers classic details with modern build quality and reliability. The Jaguar Bass Special is shaped to the elegantly modelled Jag profile, which is instantly recognisable thanks to its unique offset waist and sleek double-cutaway. The body is crafted from basswood, giving this model a thick, well-developed tonality. The midrange packs a punch, and is softened by the nicely rounded lows and highs. The body has been given a black finish, which is protected by a slender yet resilient coating of polyurethane.
Smooth Maple Neck
Fitted to the body is a bolt-on maple neck, creating a solid connection between the neck and body for excellent sustain. The neck is crafted using maple, giving it a supple playing feel, along with a polyurethane finish to prevent any tackiness or sticking from occurring during performances. Married to the neck is a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard, decorated with dot position inlays. The combination of maple and rosewood guarantees an articulate attack across every fret, whilst each note is guaranteed to ring out with the utmost clarity.
The Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special is fitted with a pickup combination that offers fantastic versatility. In the middle position is a vintage-style split single-coil Precision Bass pickup, in the bridge position is a standard single-coil Jazz Bass pickup. Each one is fat and funky, with subtle nuances between them - the jazz bass offers a somewhat tighter response than the precision bass - that deliver vibrant, punchy tones that represent the tonewood combination perfectly. Each pickup has an independent volume control, so you can readily switch between the output of each, or utilise the outputs of both simultaneously.
The Jaguar also has an active bass boost circuit with a 2-band EQ. If you're looking to execute some delightfully snappy slap-bass lines, with a response that reaches out and grabs your attention, the active bass boost gives you that extra bit of juice.
The Vintage Modified series is held in high regard for the outstanding value for money the instruments offer, and the Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special is no exception. Don't let the price tag fool you, this bass guitar isn't an entry-level model. It is great for beginners, thanks to its comfortable playability and fast-playing neck. Players who're gigging and touring regularly will love this model, and seasoned players will be astounded by how well this model plays and sounds. Everyone should have one in his or her arsenal.
