Being a Musician in Chester

There's plenty for musicians to experience in Chester. What this charming city lacks in large arenas and stadiums, it more than makes up for with a wealth of smaller, more intimate venues in which you could find, or embark on your own journey as, the next big thing.

The Live Rooms on Station Road, is a great example, and has earned its place as the city's main live music venue since it opened in 2011. The Live Rooms has a vibrant calendar of live music and events catering for every musical taste. Hosting everything from tribute acts to established touring bands, this modern venue has welcomed names like The Misfits and Gary Numan to perform there in recent years. Regular events are held supporting local music too, which provides plenty of opportunities to make your own music heard.

Alexander's, in the city centre, offers that unique atmosphere and vibe you can only achieve from a compact venue. While it has a history of attracting big-name comedians like Bill Bailey and Jack Dee, it is also hugely supportive of local music with regular open mic nights in which you can hone your performing skills.

Finally Telford's, located at Tower Wharf, has a busy calendar of live music and events from some of the best up and coming local talent.

There are great facilities for practice and rehearsal too; Faktory Studios, not far from the centre of Chester, features nine practice rooms with equipment available to hire.

Chester has a superb selection of intimate gig venues, covering a range of musical styles to ensure all of your tastes can be catered for. And, of course, the presence of a well-stocked, friendly music store on Pepper Street makes Chester a great place to play, perform and experience live music.
