The Tanglewood Crossroads TWCRO Left Handed Orchestra Acoustic Guitar in Whiskey Barrel Burst Satin finish goes to show that Tanglewood don't neglect the lefties when it comes to incomparable quality. The Crossroads series of models takes its cue from the heritage models of the 1930s, those who were designed and built for blues and roots players, who need durable instruments that would last a lifetime (and would continue to sound impeccable). Thanks to some ingenuity, superb craftsmanship, and meticulous attention to detail, Tanglewood have produced an astonishing instrument that bears a surprisingly affordable price tag.
As with their Masterdesign series, Tanglewood tasked fastidious Scandinavian Luthier Michael Sanden with the job of designing the Crossroads' series of models. With an affinity for working with wood, a considered approach to guitar design, and the no-expense-spared attitude down to the slightest of appointments, Sanden has secured the Crossroads' legacy for years to come.
Orchestra body shape
The TWCRC0 is crafted to the Orchestra body shape, making it smaller than a dreadnought but larger than an auditorium model. The orchestra body is perfect for those who prefer scaled-down dimensions, but don't want to compromise on having a hearty output. Whether you're a fingerstyle player or a flat picker, you'll love the ease with which your hands can move around this guitar. Solo performers will appreciate the timbre of the TWCRO, which yields slightly to allow your vocals to fill the pocket sweetly. However, ensemble players will also find that it is more than capable of accompanying and complementing other instruments just as beautifully.
The top is crafted using hand-selected genuine mahogany, which is paired with mahogany back and sides, resulting in a rich timbre that is infused with a warm character. As noted above, Sanden's unique bracing pattern allows the soundboard to resonate freely, whilst preventing unwanted buckling or warping over time.
Neck and fingerboard
Fitted to the body is a solid and durable mahogany neck, which is shaped to a unique profile to facilitate comfort alongside stability. Married to the neck is a rosewood fingerboard, which is home 20-frets that are adorned with dot position inlays. The fingerboard ensures smooth transitions between frets, making it delightfully comfortable to perform on, as well as adding to the stunning overall finish.
Hardware and Finish
The body is home to a rosewood bridge, which matches elegance with stability to ensure a solid anchor point for the strings. Thanks to the superb partnership of hardware and construction across the guitar, intonation and sustain is optimised for peerless performance at this price range. Chrome die-cast tuning machines uphold tuning integrity dutifully throughout the most enthusiastic of performances. Another unique touch is the Whiskey Barrel Burst Satin finish, created exclusively for the Crossroads series of models.
