Taylor’s 2014 Fall Limited Series embodies the season of its namesake, with beautiful autumnal aesthetics provided by the tasteful choice of woods and the warm, subtle glow of the finish. The Taylor 510e-FLTD Electro-acoustic Guitar kicks things off with that most tried and tested of acoustic body shapes, the dreadnought. Popularised because of its versatility across the genres, this shape provides the power flatpickers love, with deep lows and crisp highs. Likewise, strummers will find use for the aggressive attack that doesn’t falter when it comes to articulation. Despite being an electro-acoustic, unlike many others, the 510e-FLTD is not a cutaway, meaning you can enjoy the full-throated boom of the dreadnought’s body.
Another standard of the acoustic world, Sitka spruce is used for the guitar’s soundboard. A Taylor favourite, this wood lends itself well to the attributes of the dreadnought body shape as it has a broad dynamic range and crisp articulation that strummers, flatpickers and fingerpickers will love. In this case it has been finished in a gorgeous medium brown stain with burst.
The Tasmanian Blackwood used to craft the Taylor 510e FLTD Guitar’s back and sides is a visually stunning wood and shares a similar tonal palette to koa. This being an amalgamation of a number of tone woods: the meaty midrange of mahogany, maple’s brightness and a little rosewood sound colouring the overtones, making it really sing.
Expression System 2 Electronics
The result of Taylor’s continuing commitment to the perfect plugged-in tone, the Taylor 510eFLTD Electro-acoustic Guitar is outfitted with the innovative Expression System 2.
The system utilises a behind-the-saddle (rather than under-saddle) pickup with three strategically positioned sensors that pickup a wider dynamic range of the guitar’s acoustic sound. This is teamed up with a custom-designed, professional-grade preamp, to amplify a truer reflection of the guitar’s acoustic tone and responsiveness.
The Expression System 2 shares the same control layout as its predecessor, being a simple Volume and Tone, but it has slightly different gain structure that makes it 25% hotter.
