Aesthetically reflective of the season that bears its name, the 2014 Fall Limited Series, of which the Taylor 516ce-FLTD Electro-acoustic Guitar is a part, shares the same deep, rich hues, with deep reds and glows of orange. Combine this with the guitar’s Sitka spruce top and Tasmanian Blackwood back and sides, and you have a limited edition instrument that you won’t want to miss out on. The Grand Symphony body used in the construction of the Taylor 516ce-FLTD takes the basic dimensions of a Grand Auditorium and pushes them further, giving you a slightly wider waist and a larger lower bout. It is this extra size that gives the shape its rich, voluminous acoustic voice and extra sustain, making it perfect for both strummers and pickers. Yet with its powerful voice, even a light, fingerstyle touch will be heard acutely, without sacrificing balance. Furthermore, Taylor’s elegant Venetian cutaway has been added, giving you easy access to the upper frets.
Solid Sitka Spruce Soundboard
A guitar wood that begs to be played, as its tonal characteristics improve with time and play, Sitka spruce has been used in crafting the Taylor 516ce FLTD’s soundboard. Finished in the gorgeous medium brown stain with burst that compliments the series, this wood offers both beauty and amazing tone, with a broad dynamic range and crisp articulation that is favoured by players of all types.
Tasmanian Blackwood Back & Sides
Joining the top at the back and sides is an equally beautiful addition, Tasmanian Blackwood. Cinnamon-red in colour with a straight grain, this not only looks stunning but also adds a complex depth of tone. Similar to Koa, Tasmanian Blackwood has a palette of tones that takes from other woods, with the focussed mid-range of mahogany being apparent, yet joined by rosewood’s top end shimmer and richness.
Expression System 2 Electronics
Of course, giving you the capability to plug all this tone into your choice of amp or PA are Taylor’s very own electronics, which in the case of the Taylor 516ceFLTD come in the form of the Expression System 2.
Rather than going with conventional thinking, through their own research Taylor positions their pickup, and its three purposively positioned sensors, behind the saddle, rather than under it. The result of this is wider range of tones captured and a truer replication of the guitar’s natural tone and responsiveness.
This has been paired up with a preamp, which has been redesigned to be 25% hotter than previous incarnation but still carries the same, simple two-control layout of a volume knob and a tone knob.
