According to the Oxford Dictionary, Britishness is: ‘The quality of being British or of having characteristics regarded as typically British’. Apparently according to Vox, and its Vox Pathfinder 10 Union Jack Guitar Amplifier, Britishness is playing hard rock through a classic amp with a Union Jack unashamedly emblazoned on its fascia. We know which version we prefer… sorry Oxford.
Best of British
A limited edition model, there are not going to be any prizes for noticing exactly what sets this amp aside from its other Vox Pathfinder 10 brethren, particularly as you have already read that part. Yes, the incredibly eye-catching and mod-friendly, worn Union Jack flag in place of Vox’s usual diamonds on the grille cloth. To complement the colours more fittingly, whilst still ensuring the flag is still the star of the show, the cabinetry of the amplifier is a vintage ivory colour, rather than the usual black.
Visually where tradition and this limited edition design meet, though, is in the details, with the classic white piping that separates the front of the amp from its back and sides and the basket-weave, leather-look of the cabinet’s exterior, and of course, the much-sought-after chicken head knobs. Of course, the dimensions, components, and controls of the Vox Pathfinder 10 Union Jack Guitar Amplifier hold the same classic, covetable Vox design.
Aside from its bold, rock and roll design, the Vox Pathfinder 10 Union Jack is a classic Vox amp. With 10 watts of power bursting through the 6.5-inch Vox Bulldog speaker this amp is perfect for practice, studio recording, or jamming with friends. All with the responsive and chimey Vox tone offered by its all-analogue solid-state design.
The Vox Pathfinder 10 Union Jack Amp’s naturally warm tone can be shaped to fit your purposes, with a three-band EQ comprised of Gain, Treble, and Bass, alongside the unit’s volume control. As previously mentioned each of these controls are shaped into the chicken head knob design.
Along with the Clean channel giving you the classic chimey Vox tone, you can push things further by engaging the amp’s Overdrive switch, which gives you a more guttural sound, suited to gritty rock.
Along with the Vox Pathfinder 10 Union Jack Guitar Amp’s input jack, for connecting your instrument, it also has a headphone/line out jack. This can either be used for hooking up a pair of headphones, which will disengage the speaker and allow you to play silently through your headphones. Alternatively this can be used as a line out to a mixer for live or studio use.
