Vox are well regarded for their modern and imaginative designs when it comes to building and developing a present-day electric guitar with superb onboard electronics. The Vox Starstream Type 1 VSS-1 is a cutting-edge model which encompasses a huge range of divergent sounds that allow you to completely transform your electric guitar into an acoustic or other string instrument, or even reproduce synth effects all from this guitar. The VSS-1 is decked out with the AREOS-D system which brings together many essential features to help shape your sound.
MANGO AND MAPLE
The body of the Vox Starstream Type 1 VSS-1 is constructed entirely out of mango tonewood which offers warm and resonant tones with a smooth sustain. The VSS-1 has a three-dimensional molded body frame which gives it a futuristic appearance. Another advantage of this 3D contour is that it easily fits against the human body so that you feel ultimately comfortable whether you play sitting or standing up, and it improves the precision of your picking technique.
Firmly fitted to the mango body is a hard bolt-on maple neck where you can make crisp and bright melodies. Aboard the neck is a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard at your disposal which is decorated with dot inlays to guide you along the frets.
The Starstream Type 1 is equipped with the exclusive AREOS-D system which has been meticulously developed and tested to ensure that the onboard controls work as efficiently as possible to deliver a wide range of impressive and inventive sounds.
The AREOS-D gives you the opportunity to easily and efficiently switch an effect on or off, as well as the capacity to modify it to your own preferences in real time without the use of any external devices, such as a pedal or computer software.
The Control Module opens up a whole world of diverse sounds. There are nine banks of instruments with three variations in each bank, as well as the option to store six of your favourite sounds. On top of this, there are five banks which incorporate a range of electric single coil and humbucking tones with three variations of electric 12-string guitar sounds. An additional two banks are acoustic, and these account for six different guitars from small-body to 12-string and nylon string instruments. The final bank is made up of banjo, sitar and resonator models.
As well as the string instruments on offer all within this sole electric guitar, there is a Special bank with two different types of Synthesizer, “Synth” and “Bass Synth”, partnered with a Sustain mode which gives you an organ-like sound.
Further to these fascinating banks of extensive sounds are some onboard effects to tailor your sound. A simple Drive / Reverb control is included so you can modify the depth of gain or reverb in your tone in real-time merely at the touch of a dial. An FX button also allows you to switch the Drive / Reverb effect on and off and it has a convenient LED status indicator. Lastly are the easy-to-use and fairly standard Volume and Tone controls, and a three-way model variation selector switch.
The combination of the onboard sound effects and AREOS-D bank technology allows you to experiment with realistic, yet modifiable tones.
The VSS-1 is fitted with two Vox XLM pickups with a Piezo pickup in each saddle, and these enhance the response and sound you receive when using this superb electric guitar. Once you’ve hooked up the VSS-1 to your desired amplifier via the 1/4 inch output jack (or 1/8 headphone jack if you’re practising in private), you are ready to delve into this modern, sonorous universe.
