Created to be the gigging guitarist's workhorse the American-designed Yamaha A3R Electro Acoustic offers superb playability, sharp aesthetics and the amazing onboard electronics. Based around the same fundamental design and attributes of the A1R, the Yamaha A3R steps things up a little with higher-grade materials and advanced electronics.

The A3R has a solid spruce top which offers a well-rounded, full-bodied projection. The back and sides are made up of solid rosewood, ensuring a bright acoustic timbre. Yamaha have chosen tonewoods which will age well over time to provide an everlasting sound. As a performer's guitar the Yamaha A3R has been built with playability and robustness at the forefront of its construction with the cutaway design giving you access to the top-frets.

The A3R is fitted with a smooth mahogany neck which has a comfortable feel in the hand. The neck is topped with an ebony fingerboard decorated with dot position inlays to guide your way along its 20-fret surface. The profile of the neck will have you playing for hours, while its sturdy build can provide years of reliability.

The A3R is kitted out with the expertly developed Studio Response Technology (SRT) System 63 electronics, designed to faithfully pick up and translate the guitar's natural tone. Working with the dreadnought body shape and the choice of tonewoods, the A3R has a fantastic tonal range that covers all the frequencies.

This versatile preamp makes the A3R a vital instrument whether at home in the studio or live onstage, and you still get a sweet tone either unplugged or amplified.

The A3R is fitted with a rosewood bridge at the lower bout of the body which maintains a strong connection between the strings and the body for enhanced acoustic sustain. The headstock is equipped with die-cast chrome tuners to uphold tuning integrity even after plenty of use.

The slick natural appearance of the guitar is complemented by a tortoiseshell pickguard, protecting the body against scratches.

The Yamaha A3R Electro Acoustic Guitar is a dream to play and has a phenomenal sound and appearance.

Customer Reviews
Brilliant so far
Posted on 26/08/2015 by CHARLIE Having played it out of the box, the action on the guitar is very low for an acoustic. This makes playing a breeze, however it does mean adjusting technique to apply enough pressure to counter some fret noise. Would suggest if you were buying this, you bought a new nut for the neck slightly higher than stock- bone if preferred, the plastic doesn't give you a bad tone, but it would just benefit you to have maybe that little bit of extra height on the string to counter the buzz. The electronics bring out a completely different side to the guitar, although they seem to focus on keeping the sound bright, you lose some of the tonality trying to almost "force" warmth into the sound. All said and done, a fantastic guitar - I have played a number of lower end acoustics up until now, and if you are used to spending around the 200-300 mark to get a guitar that will sound good up until the point that it starts to tire and need replacing or refurbishing, this guitars solid body will only improve with age.

Great sound out of the box. Looks phenomenal, plays easily. Electronics are easy to master, mic blend offers a range of sounds.

CONS: Action slightly too low, have read about this complaint in a number of articles so i don't believe it's unique to myself! Whole guitar quite bright. I imagine as the rosewood ages, a bit more warmth will shine through. I would possibly suggest if you were using this as a main gigging guitar, consider a sound hole humbucker to double as your lower end power.
All in all, fantastic buy, and fantastic value.
