The Yamaha NP31 is a portable, lightweight keyboard, offering 76 full-sized touch-responsive keys. It features Yamaha's 'Graded Soft Touch' to make the lower keys feel slightly heavier and the higher keys lighter, as you would expect on an actual piano. The NP31 uses AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) to ensure the model delivers a rich sound. Its lightweight construction, weighing just less than 6 kg, makes it easily transportable to gigs and other venues.
The Yamaha NP31 has 10 preset voices, 4 reverb settings and the option to overlay dual voices, such as piano and strings. Yamaha has calculated that a 32-note polyphony provides the pianist with everything he needs to maintain a smooth and flowing performance. The NP31 also comes with 10 piano demo tracks, metronome, tempo range (32-280), transpose (-6 to 0, 0 to +6) and tuning. Fine-tuning the NP31 makes it a pleasure to accompany fellow musicians and play along to recorded tracks. The NP31 has a headphone socket for private practice, MIDI in/out and may be used with a sustain pedal for more expressive play.
The NP 31 delivers its sound via powerful 2 x 6W amplifiers and 2 x (12cm x 6cm) speakers. Powered by either an adapter or batteries, the NP31 has an impressive battery life of 6 hours, great for when mains power is impractical. Available in black or silver the NP31 comes with a music rest and features Yamaha's innovative power-off mode, switching itself off after an idle time of 30 minutes to save power and conserve battery life.

A great portable keyboard

I wanted to get something with a quality piano sound, easy to play, with full-size keys, and I made a very good decision. As an amateur musician and pianist this was perfectly attuned to my needs, while the speakers are not great, that's not really what it's for, plug in some headphones and it's a joy to play. If you're more experienced then you'll probably need something with weighted keys in which case spend the extra money, but as a portable (and light, did I mention light, no more back breaking carrying...) digital piano this is ace.
