The Yamaha reface series not only brings back legendary instruments from the company’s massive back catalogue but updates them, making them more relevant to today’s players, along with making them extremely portable while keeping audio quality at a high level. With four mini keyboards in the series to choose from, there is something for everyone.
Creativity - Mobile
The Yamaha DX7 became part of music history for its contributions to music in the ‘80s, and is still much-loved today. It’s just as well that the Yamaha reface DX FM Synthesizer follows on from this classic model, while bringing the sound and usability of the instrument up-to-date. With its incredibly compact size, this synth is perfect for on-the-go creatives, whether you’re in the studio, performing, or on the road this synth will perform.
You can hook a power supply to the reface DX FM, if you’re planning on a long session in the studio, but one of the many perks of this model is its ability to provide 5 hours of enjoyment from six, readily-available, AA batteries.
Classic Sounds, Modern Twist
Instruments that helped create the sound of the ‘80s more prolifically than any other; Yamaha FM synthesizers have been used by some of the biggest names around. With a resurgence in the popularity of FM sound, the Yamaha reface DX FM Synthesizer brings back these coveted sounds for modern players.
Of course, in the manner of all models in the reface series, this model has been crafted to be more intuitive to the user. Access to the FM tone generators is easy, with 8 polyphonic voices and 7 effects at hand and a 37-key (3 octaves) mini-action keyboard. The capacitive multi touch controller, which allows for hands-on, dynamic manipulation of four parameters simultaneously is easy and fun-to-use.
Get Creative with Worldwide Sharing
It’s not just what you see with the Yamaha reface DX FM Synthesizer, as the instrument goes beyond its dimensions to allow you to share and create with others around the world. With direct synchronisation with the synth, Soundmondo (Yamaha’s online community) allows you to connect with other reface DX FM owners, to collaborate, share your music, and access new sounds. Alternatively you can use the service to store your voices and set lists privately.
It does stop there either, as Yamaha have also created the free reface iOS app to go with the series, which allows you to connect the Yamaha reface DX FM Synthesizer with your iPhone or iPad. The benefit of this is that you can store a whole library of voices and playlists, and transfer any of them to the synth at any time.
Each voice and playlist you create can be given a name, picture, and several tags, so using the search function or navigating through them is easy. Playlists can also be store in a meaningful order and played through sequentially for a set.
Another great way of sharing and storing voices is through the app’s ability to turn any voice into a unique QR code. These can then be sent via email, or even printed out, and accessed via the app by scanning it with your device’s camera.
