The Yamaha THR100H Guitar Amp Head is a lightweight but extremely dynamic and powerful amplifier head with an excellent output. It gives you the choice of five different power tube models and five different amp types, any performance will be distinctly enhanced by the THR100H amp head, making a huge difference in anybody’s sound rig.
SMALL AND SPIRITED
Yamaha have gone the extra mile to ensure the technology behind the THR100H is second to none. The synergy between the amp and speaker is often hard to get right, but Yamaha’s engineers have fine tuned it with the utmost precision. At only 4kg in weight, you’d be surprised by the sheer power behind this amp head’s sound with a variable output of up to 100 watts and its efficient A/B / A+B circuit design allow you to generate huge dual-amp sounds.
The THR100H offers you five different amp types as well as five different power tube models to choose from. The five amp types are modern, lead, crunch, clean and solid, and each individual setting has its own respective tones. Modern gives an American-style saturated lead amp overdrive; Lead offers a more British spin and definition to the sound; next one down is Crunch, which has a high-end that chimes and a really bright tone; Clean has a warm, American feel about the tone, and finally Solid, as the title might suggest, generates a classic solid-state amp transmission.
In addition to the five amp types, you can choose from five different power tube models via a class A or AB circuit. The 6V6 setting produces a soft, warm timbre with accessible distortion. For rich harmonics and melodic top end, EL84 is the switch to use. KT88 offers a fantastic all-round rock sound with excellent headroom. For a mid range that is both bright and dynamic 6L6GC covers the bases, and EL34 has a well pronounced mid range too with a biting treble timbre. Yamaha VCM technology ensures that the power tubes have all the relevant characteristics to complement any sound rig.
Yamaha have kitted the THR100H out with a booster function that you can use either via the amp or the footswitch. It includes three fantastic VCM booster switches so you can alternate between a heavy overdrive or a clean, smooth sound. Your tone will be instantly improved whichever sound you’re opting for.
IMPULSE RESPONSE SPEAKER SIMULATION
A cabinet and a microphone are fundamental parts of an amp signal setup, and the THR100H uses innovative impulse response speaker simulation which enables you to reproduce a wide range of industry-standard tones and sounds via USB. However you don’t just have to use the options there, you can use others which have been customised online or use third-party software to be inventive and create your own.
The Yamaha THR100H is equipped with XLR line outputs for you to be able to plug into recording or live performance equipment. The USB connector allows you to hook up to your computer too so that you can configure the reverb or booster effects available on the amp head, while also being able to upload any impulse response files.
The Yamaha THR100H is an ingenious Guitar Amp head which will perfectly partner either the THRC112 or THRC212 amp cabinets, and once you’ve got one you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it!
