Strymon has a winning formula in its creation of effects pedals; collating some of the best effects of a particular type, studying every detail and nuance of them, and then not just recreating on them, but expanding on them to create something steeped in history but with the range to be more relevant to today, and the future.
Of course, this formula has been applied to the Strymon Timeline Delay Guitar Effects Pedal, which utilises every inch of processing power of an incredibly powerful SHARC DSP. The result of this research and high-quality components is a pedal that offers twelve studio-class delay types, an amazing amount of control with seven tone-shaping knobs and menu-driven parameters, a routable 30 second looper, 200 preset slots, plenty of connectivity and external control options, and, of course, amazing sound throughout.
As mentioned, the Strymon Timeline Delay Pedal is loaded with twelve delay types, the algorithms of which have all been crafted by hand to offer detailed, nuanced, and natural-sounding studio-class tones. These delay types are: Digital, Dual, Pattern, Reverse, Ice, Duck, Swell, Trem, Filter, Lo-fi, dTape, and dBucket.
Amazingly extensive control over these delays is afforded by the unit’s seven tone control knobs, these are: Time, Repeats, Mix, Filter, Grit, Mod Speed, and Mod Depth. Each delay also has several specific, menu-driven parameters to enabled deep editing of tones.
Once you have a delay down to its perfect settings, you’ll never have to lose it. With 200 easy-to-access, nameable preset slots, you can have the perfect delay for any song ready and waiting for you. You can use the on-board controls to bank through and select presets or connect an external MIDI controller to use exclusively for this purpose.
The Strymon Timeline Delay Guitar Effects Pedal accepts an expression pedal; giving control over any of the unit’s knobs, or combination of knobs, and allowing the function to be saved as part of a preset. Alternatively a Tap Tempo switch can be put in its place, for remote control over tap tempo.
More than a delay pedal, the Strymon Timeline Delay is time-obsessed with the inclusion of a built-in 30-second stereo looper, which is routable to appear after or before the delay, depending on the sound you’re after. All the controls for this are right at your feet, with Record, Overdub, Play, and Stop ready on demand. The looper function can also be controlled with a MIDI foot controller, giving access to more functions; Reverse, Half Speed, Undo-to-initial-loop, and redo.
In addition to the stereo in and out options and the expression pedal input, the Strymon Timeline Delay also has MIDI In and Out, giving more options for control, such as: syncing delay time to MIDI clock, remotely controlling knobs, parameters, or switches, selecting presets, and sending MIDI messages to the built-in looper.
The Right Out and Right In connections also double up as a Send/Return for the pedal’s Feedback Loop, which allows you to run external effects into the Timeline’s feedback loop.
