Focusrite has been breaking home recording ground for many years now but remains fresh in the minds of the domestic producer due to their constant innovation and modern design. The Scarlett series is almost a must-have for the small studio/home recording artist but for those looking for more options and inputs they have the Clarett range of USB audio interfaces. These are a step above in terms of hardware, inputs, outputs and quality.

18 in, 8 out

The Focusrite Clarett 4 Pre USB Audio interface is one of the most connected interfaces at this price point. With 18 types of input and 8 outputs, your recording experience won't be hindered. There are two headphone outs with individual monitors. This is a great leap forward for the home recording producer who wants to monitor as well as provide a monitor for an artist. There are 4 XLR & 4 1/4" inputs on the front of the unit as well as 4 line in and outs to the rear of the unit. This is a heavily connected machine that can be expanded using the Clarett OctoPre.

Phantom Power, Air and Halos

Some features are just too good not too use across a series of interfaces and gain halos and air are two such features. The gain halo is Focusrite's simple yet elegant way of displaying where your gain dial is, using a backlit LED to indicate where your gain is. The Air feature converts the signal to sound brighter by recreating the original Focusrite ISA PreAmp. Phantom Power is available for all four of the XLR inputs, meaning you can use your condenser mic with ease, streamlining your whole recording experience.

Max Headroom

In the past with USB Audio interfaces when you plugged high output guitars or analogue synths you would get clipping or distortion. The Focusrite Clarett series has a lot more headroom allowing for super-hot pickups or higher voltage analogue synths. This feature is ideal for those wanting to record heavier music at home. Focusrite are consistently dedicated to the truest signal path and capturing the most accurate sound.

Focused on quality

The Focusrite team are always looking to provide the best digital technology available for the best price. The Clarett 4 Pre USB Audio Interface has Ultra-low Noise -128 dB EIN Clarett PreAmps as well as Ultra Low noise distortion dynamic range as discussed previously. Featuring 24-bit/192kHz ADDA conversion for the truest signal path the Clarett 4 pre-USB Audio Interface is the ideal step up in quality for the home recording enthusiast or simply someone looking for a high-quality interface at a great price.

Expansion and software

The Focusrite Clarett 4 Pre USB Audio Interface has ADAT for expansion of up to 8 inputs using the Clarett OctPre. There is a plethora of software bundled with Clarett including Brainworx, XLN Audio, Ableton Live lite and many more. This is a top tier audio interface and bundled with so much software is an ideal upgrade from your existing interface. Beautifully housed and finished in Focusrite classic metallic matte crimson this is a must-have for the studio.
