Akai is a name that's synonymous with modern music production and its evolution throughout the years. The Akai MPC Live Music Production Controller empowers users to make music anywhere. Taking the best of the existing MPC line-up and adding bluetooth connectivity, a re-chargeable battery and 16GB of onboard storage, you can now create and perform killer tracks wherever it suits you.
Previously with the MPC series, you have had to hookup to a computer to get the best results. While this is still a viable option the MPC Live now gives you the ability to create incredible music by using it standalone. With a built in 10GB of premium sound content and further room to store your own, you just ned to connect some headphones or amplification and you can work on your next track.
The inclusion of a re-chargeable battery also means you're free to make music on the move, no more wasted train-journeys! And the beautiful 7 inch screen makes the MPC Live incredibly easy to operate in any circumstance for navigation that will enhance your workflow.
Alongside that beautiful, functional screen you will have 16 velocity- and pressure-sensitive RBG pads, 4 touch sensitive controls and a large data encoder seamlessly map to critical parameters. These controllers also work seamlessly with the included MPC 2.3 software that delivers powerful 128-track DAW capability with a total of 25GB worth of virtual instruments and audio data.
Connectivity has also been expanded with the inclusion of a total of 6 configurable outputs, headphone connectivity, RCA for turntables, 2 x MIDI In/Out, USB and Bluetooth 4.0 - so no matter what your equipment set-up, the MPC Live will fit in perfectly.
Whether you prefer working in the box or dream of a truly unleashed production experience, MPC Live effortlessly transforms from a formidable standalone production centre to a high-powered MIDI controller. The included MPC 2.3 software allows you to harness the power of instruments, samples and kits from world-class audio design companies such as Capsun Audio, MVP Loops, TOOLROOM, CR2 Records, Loopmasters and Akai themselves.
In conclusion, the Akai MPC Live Music Production Controller gives you freedom to create, record and perform the music of your dreams - let it become the beating heart of your set-up.

So much this device can do and so much fun. Have been playing keyboards and guitars with multitracks and DAW's for over 40 years so conversant with technology. Manual is a bit pants so being new to MPC (and sampling) I bought a 'bible' with tutorials which really helped as the workflow can seem odd at first. But am soon sample editing, layering and crushing samples with ease. The battery makes it so much fun and portable.
Not a hip Hop, Dance, trance etc fan but can easily use the techniques for Rock. Industrial and Classical. so don't just think "its not for me" and only for those that cannot wear a baseball cap facing the front. The filters, tuning and effects make it very straightforward to twist samples into something more menacing.
Not the best effects in the world but very usable - distortion amp with a res filter on a downtuned cello is very dark.. :). If I want greater guitar amps I will sample my guitar with them already on and enhance further.
9 inch touch screen is great, but you have to use it in conjunction with buttons/dials etc to get the most of it as some of the GUI is initially misleading. But that is about understanding the workflow. Soon becomes intuitive and obvious.
Battery gives so many options for playing while on the sofa or in bed! A fun item for those boring Hotel stopovers.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are currently rather lacking and unstable (2.0.7). Lets see what further updates bring.
Does not have MPE MIDI so cannot fully use my Seaboard with it as a controller (Bluetooth drops out every few seconds and huge latency issues). When I asked AKAI about MPE they obviously had no idea what I was talking about given the very poor response I was provided.
Dawson's provided me with the best price (at the time), great credit terms and quick delivery with updates along the way. Really pleased with the service and the Product.
