Details
The middle-child of the newly redesigned BA Series, the Ampeg BA-112 Bass Amplifier doesn’t suffer the same disappointments as its human counterpart, instead giving an excellent middle ground between the small practice amps and the larger venue-fillers, this amp is perfect for both practice and small venues.
The improvements in this second version of the model are apparent, with everything from the electronics and features, the location of the control panel, and the styling of the amp, right to the shape of the amp, with its new wedge form.
With the all-new BA Series combos, we are giving bass players classic Ampeg tone and power with modern features like the Bass Scrambler overdrive and a 60-degree monitoring angle that allows for versatility in any playing situation.
- Zane Williams (Ampeg Product Manager)Small Wedge, Powerful Voice
Slap-bang in the middle of the range, the Ampeg BA112 Bass Amplifier offer an excellent amalgamation of both its smaller and larger siblings, with a small, lightweight design and greater power output of nearly double the BA-110, with 75-watts of RMS power driving a 12-inch Ampeg Custom8 speaker.
Compact in size, the amp measures 20.8 x 18 x 14 (Inches)/ 528 x 457 356 (mm), and weighs in at an easy-to-carry 19.1 kg / 42.0 lbs. The shape of the amp has also been changed to a wedge-shape, so you can use the amp standing upright or at 60-degree monitoring angle, giving a clarity to your sound or your audience.
Improved Features
Making the control panel easier to get to, with the Ampeg BA 112 Bass Amp standing either upright or at a 60-degree angle, it has been moved to the front of the amp. Along with the other controls on offer, this is where you’ll find the new additions; the Bass Scrambler, Ultra Hi and Ultra Lo Switches, and the 15dB input pad switch.
The Bass Scrambler engages and controls the on-board overdrive circuitry, with Drive adjusting the amount of overdrive, and Blend deciding the amount of the effect that will affect your dry sound, there is also a green LED to indicate when the circuit is engaged. These controls give you the capability to swing your tone between mild overdriven SVT sound and all-out, blowtorch distortion.
-15dB input pad switch, does exactly what it says on the tin (amp), reducing the input signal by 15dB, to accommodate active and high-output pickups.
Giving you instant tone shaping with the push of a button, the Ultra Hi and Ultra Lo Switches give you more when you need it. Pushing Ultra Hi immediately enhances low-end output by 5 dB at 8 kHz, though this is quite subtle, as there is no tweeter fitted into the Ampeg BA-112 Bass Amplifier. The Ultra Lo enhances the low-end by 1dB at 40Hz and -10dB cut at 500Hz.
Best of Big and Small
With its mix of compact, lightweight portability, practice tools, and great Ampeg tone at manageable volume levels, the Ampeg BA-112 Bass Amplifier is the perfect crossover amp, with the capacity to be used for practice/rehearsal and small venues.
