The Ashdown OriginAL HD-1 300W Bass Guitar Amplifier Head is a prime example of how a professional-grade, gig-ready piece of kit need not cost the earth. Ashdown have put their expertise to excellent use with this dynamic little unit that is great for practising with at home, hitting the studio with, or taking on tour.
Masterful signal control
The OriginAL HD-1 is equipped with a passive/active switch that optimises the amp to work with a high (active) or low (passive) output instrument, which is perfect for performers who prefer to alternate instruments rather than sticking to a single bass. Once the amp has been set to the ideal input setting, the input level control enables the signal to be fine-tuned using Ashdown's instantly-recognisable VU meter, which stands out as the centrepiece on the front panel.
Highly versatile EQ
The ability to control and attenuate your signal to enhance your tone in any performance environment is a must for any player. With this in mind, the OriginAL HD-1 boasts a 5-band EQ the controls traditional bass, middle and treble with a lo-mid and hi-mid for deeper signal control. Whether you want to create a rumbling low-end energy, a punchy midrange attack, a smooth full-bodied response, or tighten everything up for a popping high-end character, then the HD-1 is equipped with the controls to sculpt and shape you tone accordingly. The Shape button enhances your tone further, lifting frequencies to offer a brilliant output.
Front panel connectivity
Across the front panel, you'll find an output control, which as you may have already guessed, regulates the output volume. The DI output gives you the ability to connect directly to a mixer without unwanted line noise for a much smoother and easy to control signal - ideal for both recording at home or in the studio and performing live. You'll also find an FX send and return, giving you the ability to insert external effects pedals or units for an ultra-clear signal path.
Rear panel connectivity
Across the rear panel there is a headphone output that allows you to practise any time you wish without having to worry about bothering anyone. There's a pair of speaker output jacks with a minimum 4-Ohm load for flexibility to pair this head with your cab of choice.
The Ashdown OriginAL HD-1 300W Bass Guitar Amplifier Head is built with resilience at the fore thanks to scuff-proof paint that protects the solid steel chassis. The controls exude quality, whilst the weight of the unit (a mere 2.4kg) makes it lightweight and easy to transport. The OriginAL HD-1 is equipped with auto protect voltage for global touring artists, and an adaptive temperature controlled fan for road and studio use. As if that wasn't enough, each unit is covered by Ashdown's 5-year warranty.
