Total control over time and tone…
The RC Series needs no introduction having led the way for many a year in terms of looping greatness. From the RC-1 to the RC-505 pretty much every conceivable application has been covered. However, the BOSS RC-10R Rhythm Loop Station bridges the gap between song creation, cultivation and in-studio/on stage execution. Let’s see what it’s all about.
When inspiration strikes
Admittedly, capturing ideas differs from person to person everyone. From pen and pad to smartphone to multi-track recorder, the medium may change. However, bottling that initial spark of inspiration is the same for everybody. Nurturing that idea to full bloom is next, and then it’s all about refinement and then possibly, improvisation around that original idea.
But how is the RC-10R any different?
The aim of the BOSS RC-10R is to fully realise the potential of the RC series of models by incorporating percussive rhythms alongside song-style looping. What does this mean? It means that the RC-10R is home to a song-based looper and a smart drum machine in one device!
Previous incarnation of the Loop Station includes guide rhythms for you to spice up your live performances and practise routines with. However, the RC-10R offers greater complexity with complete song structures with separate parts. The built-in two track loop engine works in series in sync with the rhythm, which enables independent song sections with independent backing rhythms to be captured. There’s even fill variations that offer more natural sounding transitions between song sections.
Built-in rhythm styles
Whatever style of music that you play, the RC-10R is designed to move flexibly between anything and everything with ease. There are 280 onboard rhythm styles catering to every musical genre imaginable. Not only that but you can import your own SMF rhythms using dedicated Mac/Windows software and store them in 50 user specified locations. There are a whopping 16 different drum kits to choose from too, so you can rest assured that you’re backed by the perfect percussive partner.
Highly adaptable unit
Although you can layer up the loop and rhythm sections together into a harmonious arrangement, you can also use them independently too. If you want to embrace your inner Ed Sheeran and build a pair of independent loops into a bountiful composition, then go for it. Fancy using the RC-10R as a foot-operated drum machine instead? It can do that too! From the practise room to the street, from the studio to the stadium stage, the BOSS RC-10R is perfect in any scenario.
With MIDI, please
Take things to the next level by making the most of the unit’s connectivity options. You can hook up two footswitches or an expression pedal for complete hands-free operation. Further still, you can push the boat out and integrate MIDI devices via the handy mini TRS jacks, unlocking a smorgasbord of direct-access functions and sync options with other MIDI devices. Now that is something!
Sound that never fails
As BOSS know a thing or two when it comes to amplification requirements for guitars and other devices, they’ve ensured that the RC-10R has you covered no matter what. Thanks to an ingenious variety of tone filters, you can optimise guitar and/or rhythm sounds for amplification via a single system be it a guitar amp, PA, or studio monitors.
Alternatively, you can send the looper and rhythm sections to separate outputs/amp systems if you wish too. The choice is yours!
Exceptional standards of audio quality
It should come as no surprise that the BOSS RC-10R is packed to the gills with power. Within this beast you’ll find 32-bit AD/DA conversion and 32-bit floating-point processing, which essentially means that you’ve got studio-level audio quality wherever you are. With up to 99 phrase memories available and up to six hours recording time to play with, you’ve got as much power as your imagination can take.
