In the first part of our brand new Spotlight Sessions videos we chat to Etham Basden, a 16 year old singer-songwriter tipped for big things in 2014. The idea behind the first wave of Spotlight Sessions is simple: take four up-and-coming artists or bands, take them to the video suite in our Reading store, have a nice chat with them and get some great footage of them playing. You can watch Etham’s video and read his bio below.
If you or your band wants to be considered for future Spotlight Sessions please email [email protected]
At just sixteen Etham Basden has had a whirlwind of a year. After touring the country twice over and performing sell out shows at the likes of Islington Academy and King Tuts, Etham has earnt an expanding fan base of 10,000+ on social media sites. Etham has supported artists such as Interscope signed Rixton and buzz band 5SOS, currently #1 on iTunes, on their UK tours. He also found himself in the studio with the writers behind Jamiroquai, Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran.
Etham began performing at open mic nights in local pubs and clubs around his home town, Caversham. It was at a pub in Henley where he was scouted by his management, Artists and Company, an organisation set up with the Ex Chairman of Sony BMG.
Just over a year ago, Etham created his Youtube account which set the foundation of his fan base, with his first video receiving over 50,000 views in the first week. He now has well over half a million views for his collection of original and cover tracks.
Musically, Etham has a depth far beyond his years. His mature and honest sound communicates life experiences and struggles in every song- most evident in his latest single ‘Leaving the Lights On’.
Etham has just finished a tour with US signed Hannah Trigwell, supported by Sami Chokri. With support from an expanding team, Etham is focused on refining his sound with some of the UK’s top writers and producers. After spending the next two months writing and recording in the studio, Etham is soon to announce some exciting plans for the future.
Sam utilises his wide range of musical knowledge to craft great content for the Dawsons Music blog, offering insight into new products and promoting competitions for the Dawsons Music brand.
