The Dawsons Reading refit is complete, and we had some friends around to celebrate…
The Dawsons Reading refit is finished. And, as anyone who has had a chance to visit the store will agree, it’s looking really rather splendid. The bright silver walls are gone, with altogether moodier black taking their place. Two all-new demo rooms now feature on the walkway next to the guitar wall. There’s a huge distortion pedal. There’s Novation Launchpads on the walls. There’s just so much, in fact, that it’s impossible to cram it all into this blog post. Crucially, though, there’s even more gear.
Even more toys!
The new Dawsons Reading has an expanded hi-tech and DJ area. With several demo stations from Numark-Akai-Alesis, you can get hands-on with a wide range of DJ controllers, trigger pads and more. There’s a wall of Korg synths, along with a demo station for Korg’s Kaoss and ‘Mono’ products.
There’s a new monitor demo station, packed with tasty speakers, including a huge selection of KRK monitors. These are all hooked up to a host computer, and ready to demo.
There’s a huge rack of Nord synths, ready to demo. An area packed with digital drums from Roland and Yamaha, all ready to be tried. It goes on and on…
The Roland Planet at Dawsons Reading has always been a big feature of the store. This has been updated, and the guys at Roland have really gone to town. Video walls now play the latest Roland videos. The synth area has expanded, but perhaps one of the Planet’s (and the stores) biggest talking points is in the Boss-Roland guitar area. A giant DS-1 pedal is available for people to sit on whilst they try new gear. Very cool.
The Yamaha Homeworld and Kawai area nestle next to the Roland piano area, providing enormous choice for keys players. And then there are the guitars. Hundreds and hundreds of them, electric, acoustic, bass, whatever you want- it’s here, along with an enormous selection of amps from Orange, Laney, Boss, Marshall, Yamaha, Fender…. It’s all here.
In store demonstrators from our suppliers
To celebrate Dawsons Reading’s new look, we were lucky enough to have some of suppliers demonstrators in-store over the launch weekend, to show their wares. Chris Calcutt from Focusrite was on-hand to offer guidance regarding Focusrite, Novation and KRK products. He even brought a MiniNova synth and a Forte interface (neither are even released yet!)
Mikey Sorbello from Yamaha put their new range of DTX kits through their paces, with his colleague Chris Allen doing the same for Yamaha synths, whilst Richard Bower demonstrated just what Yamaha’s keyboards and pianos are capable of. Plus, Roland’s Lee Wrathe was in-store, giving all the information you may ever need about Roland and Boss guitar gear. For Gibson and Epiphone fans, Gibson UK’s Ray Miller was around, providing sage-like advice for anyone who had a query.
Alongside this, there were performances from The Undercovers, and none other than Blues Legend and former Dr. Feelgood axeman, Wilko Johnson!
Still, I haven’t covered all the giveaways, promotions and other things that were going on…
To everyone who came along to the launch weekend, and to all our suppliers who have provided enormous amounts of support, we extend our heartfelt thanks. To those who couldn’t make it – don’t worry, there’s plenty more to come…. 😉
