The 2nd heat of the Farida singer songwriter competition is tonight – here are the artists who are performing…
With one artist through to the final of the Farida singer songwriter competition already (the excellent, Pariss Elektra), it’s time for another heat, and by the end of today, another finalist…
If you missed previous posts, this competition, in association with the Red Door Bar in Chester, is offering one lucky artist an endorsement package with Farida Guitars.
Spread over five heats, with a final event featuring all heat winners to follow, this competition has attracted an extraordinary level of talent from all over the UK.
Tonight will see another four great artists play for place in the grand final.
As a teaser, here are the artists who are set to perform…
Those involved in the North West folk scene will no doubt have heard, or heard of Jon Kenzie. His distinctive blend of folk, soul, blues and funk have made him a firm favourite in his native Manchester, and his European, troubadour-style tours have seen him gaining an increasingly large and widespread army of fans.
Jon’s music manages that incredible feat of sounding both timeless and unique. If you haven’t witnessed one of his live performances before, then tonight is the night…
Denise is another Manchester-based artist to make it through to the heats. If her face and her voice seem familiar, it may well be because she was picked by Tom Jones on last year’s ‘The Voice’.
Denise describes her two main influences as being soul and traditional Irish music. These musical foundations are very apparent in both her vocal style and songwriting, which roots classic soul from over the Atlantic with something much closer to home…
Soulful, heartfelt and a stunning performer, Denise is a very welcome addition to tonight’s line-up.
Though Alx has been playing in bands for many years, it was only relatively recently that started to indulge his love for acoustic based music, and we’re very glad he did.
Marrying skilful songwriting with delicate arrangement and performance, but with a vocal capable of travelling from soft and intimate, to huge soaring dynamics, his music is evocative of classic acoustic songwriting, but with a new, fresh voice.
London-based singer songwriter, Izzy Thomas has the kind of edgy, rasping vocal that most rock-pop performers would kill for. Despite this huge advantage, when performing in that genre, Izzy’s influences are far broader.
As a result, her songs are an addictive mix of classic soul, rock and pop, but rooted in the more delicate moments of folk. All have the potential power of her vocals simmering beneath, however.
Izzy completes the line-up for the second heat of the Farida Singer Songwriter competition. And what an evening’s entertainment it promises to be…
The competition is set to take place tonight (7th May 2013) at:
