The Fender Super Champ X2 has been making friends and influencing people, it seems…
The Fender Super Champ X2 is an amplifier provides a great illustration of just how successfully Fender has been integrating cutting edge technology with its classic amp design. At its heart is a power amp with two 6V6 output valves and 12AX7 preamp valve. Backing this up, however, is Fender’s acclaimed Fuse digital technology. What we have here, then, is an amplifier that combines the best of classic valve tones, with convenience and functionality associated with digital amps. Many have attempted to walk this particular tightrope, and very few without the odd ‘wobble’.
It seems the Fender Super Champ X2 has hit the balance perfectly, however. Guitarist magazine recently awarded it a 4-star review…
Digital technology with Valve Tone
The Super Champ X2 has the appearance of a classic Fender amp, but this conceals its tech packed innards. In essence, a tube preamp and power amp is matched with digital technology that allows the voicing of the amplifier to be changed to emulate other classic amplifiers. Alongside this are onboard editable effects, and a USB connection, which allows audio to be streamed to a host computer. In addition, it allows the amp to connect to Fender’s FUSE software.
FUSE is an editor that allows the user to get ‘under the bonnet’ of the amp, and tweak amp and effects parameters in great detail to create user patches. The software also allows access to the FUSE user community, where preset sounds and settings are available for download online, providing a great source of inspiration.
All of this would count for nothing if the amp did not deliver the goods in terms of tone. Thankfully, the Fender Super Champ X2 range deliver in spades. Classic clean Fender tones, unsurprisingly, are a star feature. But the X2 range plunders the considerable treasures to be found in its legacy of classic amplifiers, and also throwing some higher gain tones into the mix.
The Fender Super Champ X2 range is available as both a 15-Watt combo and a 15-Watt head and cabinet. Both are available at prices that are ludicrously low for the specification. If you’d like to see what they have to offer, visit our stores or order online today.
